While I do admire John McCain, and having total respect for him as a war hero and a man of principle, being a Consrvative, I have never been a big supporter of his.

McCain himself doesn't quite realize how Bush-esque he is. He clearly doesn't like Bush, and has been disliking him for a long time. But that kind of personalized, overblown disdain for Bush-the-man can wind up leading you to overestimate Bush-the-grand-strategist. To McCain, Bush's policies have failed because of Bush.

I don't care WHAT the man says. Look at his voting record. Look at the issues where he DIDN'T bother to show up for work and vote (like today, for example, not voting on the survellience bill and the medicare bill).

Perhaps when progressive Democrats take large swaths of Obamas campaign rhetoric, which is quite common in a Presidential election year, and very few extra conservative Republicans take any campaign rhetoric from McCain. Maybe, just maybe, the voting public will see as large a gulf between McCain and Bush as there actually exists.

Republicans are used to factions within their own party, while the moderate/progressive faction clash took the rank and file Democrats by complete suprise. Many are still in denial about the split.

Neither Bush nor McCain are Conservatives. Other than that, I see few similarities. The "mental midgets" running the GOP have been making quite a name for themselves with Conservatives, these days...

McCain has changed his position on a number of important issues that Bush espouses, so he is indeed vulnerable to the charge that he is Bush III. Unfortunately for McCain, if he wants to energize the true-blue GOP base, this is necessary. Obama is moving toward the center, much to the dismay of hard-core progressive Dems -- but he has to do this or he doesn't have a prayer in November. Politics as usual, with both sides beginning to spew out distortions and downright lies about the other. Time for everyone to start paying attention to FactCheck.org

You are correct that at one point in time McCain didn't support most of Bush's policies, but McCain has come around. He is now talking just like Bush, he supports Bush's tax cuts (even though he voted against them twice), he supports Bush's supreme court nominees, he agrees with Bush on abortion, and he supports Bush's war in Iraq (giving most time tables into his second term, something Bush would do). So besides global warming, what doesn't McCain support from the Bush years? I don't see it, I hate to say you are wrong, but I am not seeing this.
