Today, they DECLINED an article. I've never had one outright declined. Why? Well, GATHER is why. Apparently they cannot compete with Gather so they are not paying me for the article. Instead they want me to post it for FREE and just get the page views. Okay, so it's good enough for the page views, but not for outright payment? Give me a break! I think I'm probably done with AC then.
Here's the exact reason they gave me:
- This content is already published on too reputable of a site in order for it to attract traffic via search engine at Associated Content. Content published on a web page with a Google page rank of 4 or higher will be too competitive with itself at AC. It is likely only to be discoverable where it was originally published. <hr>
- You can still earn limitless cash for this content, if you resubmit for performance payments only. For every thousand page views it receives, you'll be paid $1.50.
I always did like Gather better, lol...

My only problem with AC so far is that it 'ate' an article on medicinal wild flowers after I had spent about 2 1/2 hours on it. It would show on my edits list but not exist for further editing. Guess wild flowers are to be feared....tell that to Lady Bird Johnson, whose site I had linked to in the article! Woo hoo, very 'wild', yes? ;p

I mean if they think it can't compete why pay for the page views? It seems to me they are just trying to get off making us give THEM something for peanuts. I truly believe I am done with them.
If you want to keep getting offers on AC, stop writing, and start promoting your articles. Get each article you have to get at least 500 pv's and then star submitting again and you'll see more offers given to you I promise!
If you don't want to do this though, try doing some of the "Calls for Content", those ALL pay, and its a great way to make some money each day.
You should also try eHow.com, they don't offer upfront payments but their pay per thousand page views is about double what AC's is, and for some reason, the pageviews come much easier there. Trust me! Take the time to write like 10 easy how-to's in a day and you'll see yourself earning money from these every month. The minimum to cash out here is $10 and its free to sign up and easy to publish, because you don't have to wait for someone to review it, it just gets published automatically.
I'm sorry that you're frustrated because of the explanation that AC gave you for that article, but if I was you, I wouldn't stop submitting even if you'll only get pv payment, something is better than nothing, and you can still always publish here on Gather if that's your preference. Try getting a blog too though, if you want to earn money from your articles, in the long-run this will make you much more money per article.
I've checked the content calls, but they are things that I could not write without regurgitating some Associated Press (or other large news publisher) article.
It's all about time invested. I can post here, have more fun and make more money in less time. *shrug* Like I said I'm most likely done with them.
