I created a new group named snail points.
As the points now move so slow, this group should go a long way.
Group agenda is:
Post anything! Points won't move!

Great concept. :)
My points barely move at the best of times anyway, so I'm in...
And they get a bit lazy, too. I did it myself on Slate. One day, I went back through my own posting history and took an honest look at what I had done originally compared to the more recent stuff. Definitley a decline in quality. I was a part of the problem, not the solution. I had to make a decision to either up the ante in my own posts or move on. Since I really didn't have the time at that stage to put in more effort, I chose the latter, especially since Slate started taking TOO much control over what was posted and deleting things that weren't "on topic" and in line with THEIR notion of what the content should be while letting a lot of the meaningless fluff continue.
What I like about Gather is the participants determine the content, not the editors. The only control the editors have is through "Carrots" (features on main page, changing and keeping secret how points are doled out, contests, etc.), not wholesale deletion of "off topic" posts. And, since I tend to be more of a visual person anyway, the ability to post photos is a definite plus.
