I didn't even know flagging occurred. Shows how ignorant I am about the subject.

I followed a couple around one night who were going around flagging articles left and right just beacuse they didn't agree with the content. One of them actually published a link to the articles they were flagging.

Nah, it's not recent. It comes and goes in spurts. Drive-bys happened for awhile, "identity theft" happened for awhile--it happened to me, flagging, nasty comments. It's just all in who you piss off. Some people have no lives.

But I thought that they changed it so when you flagged, you had to state reasons why and it kept a record of who it was that flagged. Maybe I was day dreaming again. =)

I have had two of mine flagged recently that I have noticed. To be honest, there were probably more I didn't notice. There was nothing inappropriate or hateful in things I wrote, but they were flagged. Seems to me it would be a lot more fair if Gather checked flagged articles to see if the charge is appropriate. If not then the flag should be removed. Better still, flagging should just send a message to Gather who will investigate then decide if it warrants a flag. These people count on the fact that Gather doesn't actually check any of this stuff or do anything to stop such juvenile behavior.

I could probably name at least 6 people who could possibly be flagging Juan's articles, and even more who could possibly be flagging mine.

And this isn't just about Juan and I. There is an epidemic here of people who have no other life except on Gather, and they flag anything they don't agree with.

I can tell you that Dame Ruth Dickson was the first on Gather to use the word "flaggit".

Well, when my identity was stolen, it took a few days for it to all blow over. I think you'll just have to wait and have that happen too. Unless, of course, you've really pissed someone off like Sandy Knauer does. I love that woman but because of her sense of "right" and not backing down from anyone, she stays in the "flaggit" zone.

Anyway, I know that it's annoying and people have no lives, but what do you do? They're doing it to get under your skin.

I want everyone to see and read what I disagree with and I want them to know my opinion, so why flag an article...Speak your your mind, you bunch of pussies. Hey for a laugh after the police switchboard was swamped with calls, I did a letter to the editor, this is how it began

LOL the newspapers website has had 23 hits in response, many of them self identified idiots who have tried to explain their knee jerk reaction to seeing armed soldiers in full packs trudging towards or lake. DUH... our Natl Guard unit has been called up and will be headed out for training next month. You would think the knuckleheads would put two and two together and realize it was a PT drill, not an invasion.

A couple of my connections have had articles flagged that made absolutely no sense at all. It is getting out of hand and something should be done about it. It's as easy as 'CLICKING OFF THE ARTICLE' if they don't like what they are reading. Same as turning off the TV if you don't like what's on.

Maybe they should do something like 1. The person has to report the flag first. 2. Leave their name and reason. 3. Then Gather looks into it before it's flagged. 4. Gather puts the name of the person responsible for the flag if in fact it is flagged.

Some people need a different hobby!

Lynn....I agree with you 100 %, however Gather has grown so large that they can't even think about monitoring the site.

I received an e-mail from Carolyn Richards stating that an article which I posted over a month ago had been removed for attacking another Gather member, which wasn't the case at all.

I would think they could have #1 and 2 automated and then go from there. Once they chose to flag the article it would then automatically have the persons name and reason listed with the flag. Something is going to have to be done.

I may have read the article you are talking about before it was flagged. Not sure, but it was a ridiculous call if it's the one I'm thinking about.

I have yet to have anything flagged that I have not flagged myself. But with that said, I have seen a lot of other's articles flagged for some unknown reason by these morons. I would rather have a debate on an issue than see someone just click by and flag the article for some stupid reason. Some of these are flat out attacks on some people here, not even an honest reason. I have seen some just flagged because as it looks someone just did not like that person, and that is as childish as it gets.
Maybe there needs to be some sort of moderation on these rampent flaggings?

I believe it is those on Gather that resort to name calling when they cannot put up a good argument. I have had an image flagged, and it was my icon for sometime. So far, nothing else. Could it be the way these folks are expressing their belief in diversity, and showing tolerance for stand on issues?

These folks would probably fit in with the new congress, as they are trying to limit freedoms in this country by shutting down opposing views.

I am confused by all of this. I dont write hardly anything, but I post to others comments. I read an article the other day, that was flagged at the top but I could still read it. I thought if your article was flagged, you couldnt read it. I have never flagged anything as of yet, I just either leave a comment or go on to something else. I did not see your Larry , the cable guy images. I really like him too. Its petty to flag, its a sneak attack. There is always an asshole in the crowd. Flagging for sick reasons is as bad as any Troll activity, they are cowards and live to be evil and hurt others. I only comment on Gather because I am afraid to publish anything. I have trolls that follow me around the internet, steal my identity, and they even publish websites accusing me of being a National fraud and of committing crimes on an international level!!!!
I am an artist, never been in trouble with the law, only naive enough to post too much personal info in a forum that supports a medical professional that they think does not deserve the support.

The flagging and low points seem to have gotten very out of control lately.

Here is a copy of an eMail I sent to the gather staff----

Hello Support, if that is your real name,

People don't like me, I'm abrasive and obnoxious most of the time, and give far better than I get. As far as I know however that isn't against the rules, and I've checked your "community guidelines" and TOS-- and as far as I can see, I'm not breaking the rules. I did have one video "removed" from public sight, and although no specific reason was given, I simply shrugged it off. It was a video mocking Osama bin Laden. Why anyone would be upset with that is beyond me.

I am contacting you today because I am being CONTINUALLY HARRASSED with unfounded "flagging" incidents. A handful of people have taken it upon themselves to "get me," and are FLAGGING nearly everything I post.

Since you people take weeks to "review" the flaggings, I am effectively made INVISIBLE by these ABUSERS OF FUNCTIONALITY.

This must STOP immediately, or the reviews must be made IN A TIMELY FASHION.

When I went through the TOS, I realized that I have been unfairly targeted, and this targeting has been enabled by YOU. I can give you DOZENS AND DOZENS of instances where others have broken the TOS, and I will if I am forced to do so.

As I do so, I will FLAG every article that I am reporting to you, and there will literally be dozens and dozens of articles that are then required for your review. This is not a threat, it is an attempt to resolve the issue.

I have NEVER flagged ANYONE's articles or images or videos before, but I will begin to do so ZEALOUSLY if you cannot make sure the INDISCRIMINATE TAGGING of my content continues.

What I'm telling you is this--- people are tagging me UNFAIRLY--- without regard to anything being "wrong" with the content, they are just FLAGGING me to make me invisible.

If you cannot fix this problem, trust me, I'll be tagging people right and left for LEGITIMATE reasons based on your own TOS.

All I want is the right to speak out, nothing more, to be treated the same as every one else, nothing more. I do not seek special treatment, ONLY FAIR treatment.

I have also been in contact with a reporter from the NY Times, whom I became aquainted with as a result of entering a few contests at YouTube.

I will take this story to the press as well, if you do not DO SOMETHING about the abusers of your "flagging" functionality. I am quite certain you are able to see who is tagging these articles.

Is there no repercussion for flagging others, only to have you remove the flag because it is inappropriate ??? ABUSE IS ABUSE, and I won't tolerate it any longer.
