Larry, its not always being read first! Some just go around slapping 1's on articles without even reading them!

Tamara, it will all come together, and the higher nubers will be ther, and the positive comments. You have written some nice articles, and I know, that as more read you, it will get better.

I follow Jody's rule about the matter. If I don't vote I don't comment. Sometimes, I have nothing to say about an article (can you imagine that - me - having nothing to say?). I think that a rating of 1 would have to be really seriously out of hand. It would take much for me to rate something a one. Usually, if I can't rate it a 10, I just don't rate it at all.

Tamara...don't feel bad. I consistently have someone do this to me...and it usually happens to any article I may have that is on the Highest Rated Articles of the day page. I will have 13 ten votes and 13 comments..and then the next thing you know I will still have 13 comments, and 14 votes....because someone went by and threw a 1 or 2 rating at me with no comment to knock me off the page. Take it as a badge of honor. People who do this are obviously jealous....

I feel the same way as all of you. And I really think there are just folks out here who are just "hating" on everyone else. It just burns me when they do that.

I try to ignore the ratings on my own articles. I always wonder who didn't like it and why. I don't want to drive myself nuts!

Sometimes I rate without commenting, but, it's never below a 7...usually higher. I get plenty of drive by '1's'...I love it...means I've put the bee in somebodies bonnet. I live for this!

Ok, I admit that I just did this to an article. I voted it a one because it was one sided, had horrible grammer, wasn't thought out, and it really was mean toward anyone of the libreral persuasion (which normally I wouldn't even open, but it had a misleading title). I did read the entire article. I wrote out a comment in reply but then I was too afraid that this nut would get back at me. So I gave it a 1 star, erased my comment, and left. I was too mad not to do something, but not stupid enough to let this person know who I was!!

I'm normally the person giving out 10s to make up for the drive-by 1s!!

If it was just controversial articles it happens on, that would be different, but it happens all the time, on all kinds of arguments,because there are people out there that are petty, like the kind that scratch your car on the sly, and those that get a kick out of just raining on someone's parade. Ignore it as much as you can, I think some wait around to see your reaction too. Just a suspicion, so I try to not honor them with any notice, sometimes I can't help it though.

I'm sorry they are being jerks to you. It happens to me too sometimes, I dont post much so I think its my comments on other peoples articles that get mean people riled up enough to deliberately seek out my stuff and drive by rate it. I feel sorry for them that they have so much negativety in their lives. They are not happy people. On the other hand I talk to a lot of positive people who post postive stuff here like you and find my life enriched. I love on gather the poetry, the news, the art, photos and people who care. I am happy you are here and sorry they are targeting you.

Sometimes I'll mark something a "10" and not leave a comment, but I rarely rate something a "1" without leaving my opinion.

Guys, sorry to sound so whiny, just a little annoyed. If I didn't like something I would tell the person. I try to be as straight forward as possible. Not insultive. but straight forward. Aarrrggghhh!

I appreciate the feedback and even a '1' rating is better than none. I feel your frustration though Tamara and know this, the more we write, the more we share, the better or worse our writing becomes especially when we see where our audience finds frustration in our work. I love your articles because they are so diverse and not boring !

I had someone rate a recipe low. What could you possibly have against a recipe. Unless you've tried to make it and it didn't work out and even then it's really not the recipes fault.
