Those of us who are tired of listening to the "talking heads" refer to us as the "cut and run" Democrats ought to consider an alternative "tag" based upon a plan for Iraq that has been advanced by Seantor Joe Biden. Under Senator Joe's plan, Iraq should / could become a federation of states united under one central govenment in Baghdad. States would be divided by ethnic, tribal, and/or religious affiliations. In others words, there would be a Sunni (sp.), Shiiiette (sp.), and Kurdish state within the country of Iraq. Land would be apportioned accordingly. Oil royalties could be divided among the States in order to avoid border conflicts over those specific oil rich regions of the country. In my mind, this would give each state its own sense of identity. Warlords already in power within a newly created State could retain their stakehold in that given area. Sunnis (sp.) and Shiiiettes (sp.) could concentrate on keeping each other out of each others respective States rather than to vie for power within the countrywide battlegound of Baghdad. Representative government could be assured through the three (3) States who in turn would send elected representatives to the national parliament. The Iraqi's would be so busy working on Statewide / local concerns such as governance, safety, security, taxes, health care, attracting others to move to their State, job creation, establishment / maintenence of utilities, recreation, housing, and infra-structure they wouldn't give a sh-- about the bums in Baghdad as long as they didn't get re-elected every two (2) to four (4) years. Sound familiar? It's democracy in action! Forget all this high and mighty Republican rhetoric like spreading freedom, ensuring justice for all, promoting the common good, liberty, equality, and supporting free and fair "democratic" elections! Let's give them a real taste of democracy! Come on! Let's all get behind Senator Joe's proposal. I am sure that we "cut and run" Democrats can come up with a catchy shorthand tag-line for his plan. Remember "Power to the People?" Perhaps, Iraq can become DISABUSED (i.e., Disunited Independent Soverign (sp) Arabic Bureaucies Unaccustomed to Stagnet Elected Democracy). I am sure you all can come up some "catchier" phrase.

childrens children don't have to!
And about your comments that the democrats are not for "cut and run", well, I think that if you're not for that, maybe there should be a change of leadership (Dean, Kerry, Kennedy, etc) which they are saying that we should get out of there as soon as possible.
To be honest, This is the first time I've heard of this plan, so, why there isn't anything on the news/talk shows/media? Don't get me wrong, I do want our troops to come back soon, but If were going to leave, let's clean the mess and give Irak a true chance of survival, only then we can say: "Mission Acomplished"
By comparison, Bush's strategy appears to be comprehensive, well-planned and well-considered.
Best regards, Ben
Author "Leading People to be Highly Motivated and Committed"
Yes, with well over $300 billion US taxpayer DEBT dollars already piddled away, at LEAST $8.8 billion of it simply "vanishing" into a cloud of corruption fog, nearly 3,000 Americans killed, likely well over 100,000 innocent Iraqi's killed, escalating violence that grows worse each day, no end in sight, the brilliant "Stay the course" plan is certainly "comprehensive, well-planned, and well-considered."
Ben, how much does the white house pay you to vomit this utter nonsense to the public like this? Surely, you can NOT be this devoid of reality that you offer these bits of delusion without receiving some compensation for your colossal efforts at deception, do you?
Antoney.....Jesus,
Anthoney says, the problem is, Americans re- elected Bush and our goals should be followed through. Anthioney....what is "the goal?" The goal changes every week, and has been changing every week since the year 2001. That is the only reason we are still there.
Jesus...the reason you never heard about any Democratic proposal is because the bad guys own the news media. Only one side gets the light of day. The bad guys say the Dems won't give their position. Then when they do, they are accused of being unpatriotic.
We are fighting in Iraq now "so our children's children won't have to?" Tell that to my child, a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. who left his children to fight in Iraq and Kuwait. What do you think our children are doing now?
Sue B.,
Liberal - shimberal! You seem to have missed the entire point of my article. There is no viable solution to the war in Iraq as long as we continue in this "red vs. blue,"
"conservative vs. liberal," "Republican vs. Democrat," "cut & runners vs. "stay the coursers" and "innies vs. outties," rhetoric! No viable alternative will thoughtfully considered as long as those powerbrokers in Washington are more worried maintaining their jobs through re-election than seeking consensus on a plan of action. Let Iraqi divide into three (3) separate states then they can do what we do - stand around, cluck our tongues, and call each other names like Shi's, Sunni's and Kurds.
Larry O.,
Iran and Syria feeding the insurgency in Iraq for their own ends? What would those ends be? The insurgency is being fed by the presence of the "American infadels" or didn't you listen to the speech give by the President of Iran before the United Nations yesterday.
j warren f.,
Thanks. I decided to "tag" Senator Biden's plan for a three (3) state solution in Iraq
"FIFI = Federalism and Independence for Iraq." Catchy, heh? Wouldn't you vote for "Democrats for FIFI?" Beats the h--- out of "cut and run" Democrats!
Let's vote in a real "uniter" not a "divider." John McCain for President.
Ben I did not expect to find you here. and you say:
"By comparison, Bush's strategy appears to be comprehensive, well-planned and well-considered."
There is no Bush plan, you know it.
