I have been working outside today, believe it or not pulverizing and moving chicken fertilizer to a bed to grow greens in. I keep a towel nearby to wipe sweat from my forehead so it won't drip on my glasses. I was wiping some sweat off, with my cap in one hand and the towel in another and just looked around.
As I saw blueberry bushes still green, fig trees that are still producing, crepe myrtle trees blooming, and banana plants with their beautiful blooms, I had to pause a moment. I looked a little father and could see the tomato plants, some late cantaloupe vines, and okra. Behind them were several different flowers, bushes, shrubs and trees.
I can't really describe the feeling. You see the beauty and know it is yours, along with whoever else sees it. You know that you are responsible for this beauty. You had to sweat and labor to get it this way, but it was worth it.
Just that pause to wipe the sweat off and look around has made the day.

Funny how the little things can make a person's entire day.
It's very hard to grow things here. Our soil is the pits, but I too get enjoyment over seeing my flowers thrive, especially after the early drought-like conditions we suffered in the South this Summer.
They are great, Scott.
Marianne, if there are chicken farmers in you neighborhood check and see if you can't get some. Many of the farmers will give it away and sometimes even haul it to you. It will help improve the soil.
It is nice to know you are able to make the place around you a prettier place to live.
Good Job
