George Corneliussen
On August 21, 2006, I started the Corn Dog group. Corn Dog is a cartoon series I have been developing that centers around a dog-eyed view of human behavior. It took me a good six months to develop the cartoon into a format I was happy with. I have finally gotten to the point, based on my instinct and feedback I have received from members of the Gather community, that I feel Corn Dog is ready to be pitched to potential publisher.
If life is a gamble, then publishing is one heck of a gamble. I have recently decided what the next step in my journey to take my cartoon series "Corn Dog" to the "big time" will be. The ultimate goal is to hook up with a major publisher and take the old dog as far as it can go.
While submitting the series to an established list of publishers is in the works, I have decided to do a few things before I do that. The following is a list of what I have done and will do along with an explanation of why.
1. I have purchased a domain name based on the "Corn Dog " title. ( In this day and age, your chances of gathering interest from a major publisher go way up if you have a completed product with verifiable public interest to submit to them.)
2. I have secured the services of a professional website design company to design my "Corn Dog" website. ( I want my site to look like Corn Dog is a legitimate product when I submit it to publishers. And, I want to be able to verify Corn Dog's commercial appeal to potential publishers .)
3. I have secured the names/websites of several respected companies that will produce Corn Dog products that I can offer for sale on the Corn Dog website. These products can be produced at little or no start-up cost to me and can be shipped on an "as needed" basis directly to customers. ( These services allow me to provide high-quality Corn Dog merchandise to customers without my having to tie up cash that I could use to promote the Corn Dog site ).
4. After the Corn Dog site is up and operational, my plan is to submit finished Corn Dog products to potential publishers. ( The reason for this is to make sure potential publishers are exposed to a broader depth of Corn Dog material than a simple example of the cartoon would provide. A typical submission will include things like a finished Corn Dog book, calender, etc. This will also show potential publishers that I have an active hand in the marketing of my product, and that I am not the proverbial "babe in the woods" when it comes to publishing.)
With the world of publishing in the state of flux it currently is while it decides if printed media or virtual media is the "way to go", I believe it is more important than ever for anyone hoping to publish their work to participate in both the creative and business end of their work. Do not let yourself believe that it "takes too much time" to do both. If you try your best and fail, well, that's the way the cookie crumbles; but if you don't succeed because you put your future totally in the hands of others, you will never know if you were given a legitimate shot or not. I will publish more articles as my ship sails (sales ? ) forward.
The CORN DOG group currently has 3149 members!

He just keep barking 'til someone says O.K. !
Will do.
At this point, I'm beginning to understand what a juggler would feel like if they had to juggle on a busy highway.
As I like to say,
"Changing the tire while the car is moving ".
Thanks, I guess it's time to "turn up the volume !".
The song "Workin' In A Coal Mine" keeps playing in my head.
The Long And Winding Road, fer sure.
Now the night shift begins at Corn Dog Manufacturing.
Will you autograph the offerings from your site?
I'm panting waiting!
Thanks so much. If I build it will they come ?
Thanks very much .
Thanks, With pick and shovel in hand, I move onward.
Have a plan and stick to it. By the way the "sticking to it" is the hard part.
Thanks and say "Hey" to Shady for me.
Thanks, Will do !!!!!!!!!

Pastor Paul
I ain't nothin' but a hound dog lover.

Thanks, there's a long way to go, but I'm goin'.
After going through all kinds of colors, pink just seemed to fit. Now I can't imagine Corn Dog in any other color.
Thanks ! Will do !
Row, row, row, my boat up the stream.
This news makes me so happy!
Your business plan is well thought out. I want this for you and the Corn Dog as much as I would want my own publication successes.
And you, Corn Dog--I like your NOW look so much better! It transmit compassion for and patience with us humans. We could learn a lot from you dogs.
Break a leg, guys!
It seems alot of people here on gather think it's in bad taste to PM your contacts about articles one writes. But I think that if you don't promote your work yourself then no one else will. You're doing all the right things and I can't wait to see Corn Dogs in print. You go guy!
I've come back as an active Gatherer after a year in the shadows. Busy with other projects. There was also the debate we had a year ago on Gather itself Lasting Interest?
Corn Dog deserves to find a publisher/syndication. You're right on the mark with building a website to sell the idea. I've just done the same for my own Proposals I combine this with snail mail invites to editors to visit the site.
Basically, it's building a better mousetrap...
Good luck

Thanks, Glad you like the "modern" version of Corn Dog. I too believe he "gets the job done" a whole lot better.
I thought long and hard before I sent out the notice on this article. But, I had received over 15 requests to notify them when this article went up, so.............................
Hey, long time no see ! Welcome back !
Stick like peanut butter to the roof of a dog's mouth.
Thanks for the positive vote !
The more I checked around, the more I found out that using a website to promote your work is not an option anymore.
Thanks ! You are yet another example of the "good folks" who are out there.
You gotta take chances in life, there's no way around it.
Keep a-moving forward, George!
Thanks, On of my dreams is to develop a system to promote one's work that anyone can use.
Thanks, I'll give that idea a good screening.
Thank you very much.
I just wanted to say I am finally going through what is now under 5,800 pieces of gather new mail that is in my inbox on here. So with that in mind I have finally come to a piece of mail that was addressed to me in regards this article submission you have created to share with the gather community.
