Learning At Gather - by Doug Simple

Dedicated to Edward Nudelman, a smart fella and a poet. I like him.

This is why come here,

tasting one poem at time,

to learn,

to grow.

I write comments on others works,

so they will tell me if I understand,

and show me what they meant,

like in school.

I expose my "fool"

with my comments,

in exchange for knowledge,

for dialogue,

and my "fool" becomes wise.

Edaward is a great soul ! I do not think there is one person not to love him, respect and like his presence.
yes gather is like school, some are good and some are just.... but it is learning in here ..that's for sure!

Doug, I'm totally humbled by this offering. And yes, you are a welcomed gift to Gather. Your comments are always so thought-provoking and interesting, you are not afraid to speak your heart, and are minently "teachable," which I believe we all need to be in this writing arena. None of us should ever think that we've in any way "arrived," and, if I suffer from any one aspect in my writing, it's feeling inadequate in trying to convey what I think or feel. So, thanks so much for this generous and magnanimous "thank you"! And thanks to all for making Gather a wonderful place to open up ideas and impressions through writing in this interesting (and sometimes volatile) metropolis of communication.

The humility of the voice in this piece about growing as a poet shows how open you are to that growth while encouraging others to do the same. You are not the student, but the teacher, when you write like this, my dear friend. And your end will be achieved: With this attitude you can not only move mountains, you can sculpt sestinas.
