An article in the Houston Chronicle states that the time change, a useless ritual we go through every year, not only does not save energy it can kill you.
I can believe that it doesn't really help with energy costs... I can even believe that it would up a person's chances of heart attack because of the stressors one puts on themselves or just happens naturally...
Aw, but it gives us all something to rally around and hate together. If we lost Daylight Savings, what would we talk about with our coworkers twice yearly?
I have never been a big fan of going ahead in the spring but that extra hour of sleep in the fall is always welcome. I could live without it the entire hastle though.
It was clear at the time that the US Government decided to change (extend) Daylight Savings Time that it was not likely to save energy and likely have the opposite effect. Don't our elected legislators have staff to research these issues before voting on a whim? Or do they just ignore the staffers? I've wondered these questions for years and have yet to receive a satisfactory answer.
Daylight savings time was never meant to save energy. It was started to allow Defence Workers to work with an extra hour of daylight during WW2. After the war it was never discontinued.
Just more proof that we will continue with a failed experiment just because. That's what many countries with nationalized health care have done. Even though the programs are not sustainable, they don't know how to go backwards. That's why forward movement that is not necessary and which has not been entirely researched for the good and bad is doomed from the start. And it will go on and on and on...
