To put behind our differences and get on with the business of our marriage;
Was it when the cat died and we reft into two, the summer you left for the mountains to a cabin by yourself, in search of something better (or, at least different);
Was it when our colors faded to grey, and wrinkles and sags replaced youth, the hallmark of our earlier narcissism;
Was it when our fights gave way, and we finally let go of our cold-hot anger, to let rush forth the conversation we so ardently desired;
Was it when we knew these long 30 years that we were always friends - lovers, friends, lovers, despite it all;
Was it when taste-memories of perfumed skin, sticky sweet upon the tongue, wafted into our senses as you walked by, our eyes deep pools, longing, craving the spark between us that burns so brightly still;
Come lie beside me, let me take you away to Elysian fields and poppy dreams where wars and hate have no currency - where sweet succor collapses into sweat-perfumed arms, aching deep, deep, deep within this eternal fecund longing.

You are on a roll lately, huh?.....Keep it up, it is so nice to read, fiction or not; portrayals as vivid as yours. And the "10's" just keep coming!
We wake up to the fact that life would be less without the other.
To be published later this week. One more piece to write this weekend.
