It's all Amy's fault. Her bad poetry contest is such a GOOD IDEA that I decided to hold my own contest. The best Valentine rhyme submitted in comment to this article between now and midnight on February 14th (Pacific Standard Time) will win a bag of Hershey Kisses sent by USPS on February 15th!
Here is my own submission to fire up your desire to satisfy your sweet teeth with the prize:
Dear Valentine
You are so fine
And sweet like woodruff wine
Shall we entwine
Two tender tendrils on the vine
Yours in mine
And mine in thine?
Good luck dear hearts! The winner will be announced as a comment on this article on Thursday morning. Hopefully the winner will see the announcement and send me the address so I can send the prize.

for you, my sweet
a poem that is real neat
it won't smell like stinky feet
or be nasty poison like deet
or sound like it was pulled from my seat
but instead pulse with heat
from a heart as red as a beet
and be a right proper treat
cuz i think you're sweet enough to eat.
(you'll have to excuse me, i think i just made myself sick.)
your charms warm me beyond all discretion.
Let your strong fingers wander
and I'll grow ever fonder. . .
Yes, you _do_ know my every intention!
No guidelines Amy...
Other than rhyme
Just have a good time!
If Love was a commodity
Allah would charge a sky high fee
So high you'd have to fly to pay the bills
This priceless transcendental thing,
That high virtues and morals bring;
He'd price outside the range of social ills.
You'd need some legal tenderness,
Some kind coined words and thoughtfulness,
Some simple trust in God and real strong wills.
What kind of job would earn the pay
To pay the fee so God would say,
"Fill this one up with up with true love to the gills?"
You'd have to be a great success
To have the finance to invest
In wealth that when you die you can spend still.
You'd have to work for God himself
To earn such transcendental wealth.
These jobs require character and skill.

"THE BOSS' is fair, though hard to please.
You don't get jobs like this with ease.
And those GOD fires never catch a chill.
But difficulty turns to ease,
And soon God's work is like a breeze.
Those in God's service love to do God's will.
The price of Love is sacrifice,
Tenderness and being nice,
Even when you feel the urge to kill.
You've got to work real hard and pray
To keep those low down blues at bay.
Realizing Love's more than a thrill.
Thrills can be bought. Thrills can be sold.
Thrills are great, but thrills grow old,
And when thrills die true love is living still.
Alive! Alive! Forever More,
Faith, Hope, Then Love, The Highest Door;
The Love of Giving Love To Pay Love's Bill.
If Love was a commodity,
Allah would charge a sky high fee,
So high you have to fly to pay the bills.
This priceless transcendental thing
That high virtues and morals bring,
He's price outside the range of social ills.
Warm embraces last all night
Now you to can feel the heat
That just happens when two lips meet
Only soft candlelight
Red roses and wine
Your hand in mine...
is that corny enough, I only had one glass of coffee this morning...lol Salud
My darling no se me quita
I shall kiss esa boquita
Que solo belongs to me........ ;-)
I can't take credit for that one, so please don't count it as a submission to the contest.................
Her name is Anna.
Instead of a hat
She wears an antenna.
When she and mister kiss
And buggy lips entangle,
Their headgear's all askew
Like a new fandangle.
"You dress up in champagne,
And I impatient bubble,
Even before the cork is pulled,
And Jans' rhyming insistence!
Soda would suffice to get me high,
While you, remain in my reach,
Unconcered, if calender dates,
Don't blush incarnadine,
As your flaming cheeks!!"
LOL, loved it Jan
You fibber mcgee
Your poetry
Impresses me!
Barbary
Your ardury
just drove my huggy buggy
Sonia M
Your lingua gem
Is lovely and je t'aime
Mariana T
Should switch to Tea
And write more corny poetry
I sit with empty scuba gear
And wish that we could share a beer
But you are far and I am near
My love is strong and yet I fear
That this verse may sound too queer
And so I shed a bitter tear
A lonely bagel sans its schmear
Well, it DOES rhyme! LOL
where rough seas or smooth
Protection from hurt and pain
LOVE always thee sustains.
Love warms in cold storms.
Smooths lifes many wrinkles
and in even dire straits
gives strength to laugh
at the fickle fates!
I'm still suffering aftershocks.
Barbary's lucid intellect's on it:
She's produced an insect bonnet!
Dear Sonia, though code switching
usually is a theme for bitching
betwixt, between warring tongues,
your Spanglish I award two lungs!
And the Merry Mugg Muggles
of the out-of-water snuggles,
deserves--just for dry metaphor--
a means to plumb the sea floor.
But Jan, your own sun drunk verse
merits the chocolate purse.
Your rhyme so sweet, I can't compete,
so 'kiss'-ing you gives me my treat!
I can't wait to spew forth my Valentine's word smooching soon.
I'll rhyme-you-a-ree for a chocolate kiss!
My arms are quite empty this cold winter's eve
while out 'round the house, snowy wind doth breathe...
Oh where, oh where is my next Mister Right,
the perfect sweet someone to hold me so tight?
Ah, well - I'll fire-up the old wood-stove,
and re-live great loves from my memory trove...
But look! Beyond sweethearts and times with my ex,
beyond all the love-notes and travels and sex,
Here are the sweetest love mem'ries of all:
valentines from my children when they were small.
it took me an hour
then took a shower
and rolled in some flour
basted to season
for only one reason
pavlovian teasin'
arising from a simple kiss;
Your hand in mine, my hand in yours;
Our love can open many doors.
We can sail across the ocean,
take a rocket to the moon,
dance among the twinkling stars
as we sing our favorite tune.
Nothing is impossible
when true love is in the air;
So, my love, kiss me sweet
and let me take you there.
Cheryl you have captured Romance and yours makes me want to dance!
John L. you teaser, your clever one is a culinary pleaser.
Carolion Grailbear,
you made me laugh,
You made cry
and told a tale there
My oh my!
See how deftly he rhymes with
AA and BB!
Amy George your clever banter
Could well be sung by an Irish Cantor
Martha A, your metaphor might put an end to hateful war
Pass the gin. I love your icky similes and comment in parentheses!
Madeline C.B, Your words are unique
And Jana B, ooh la la, fantastique
Abu, Abu, you need a stage and microphone
A listening congregation
Your words so true
Teach the values
Of the Islam nation
Lora m, you're welcome here
So jump right in and have no fear
Vinay B, What can I say?
I blushed when I read your poem today
Where a boy shock of wheat had been heaped.
When she wakened, tis said
She found she was bread,
And shouted, "My god, I've been reaped!"
(anon.)
Who do that Kazoo zany act
Mugg Muggles never for brain lacked
And his talent and humor are known fact
Diane White, Where did you find that jewel?
The girl wheat was a bleepin' fool!
The Sound of Money
What savage splendor,
The mating call of legal tender,
It turns my soul to sweet surrender,
And when the romance ends...Dividends!
I dont remember where I picked these riffs up,,,I
A treasure to keep.
Your love is a blessing.
So true and so deep.
Your passion, your poise,
Your smile and face.
Your essence, your core,
Inner beauty and grace
Brighten my mornings,
and lighten my nights.
And have given my soul,
wings for flight.
When I breath your fragrance
Sweet and deep.
And kiss your soul,
My Heart does weep.
The Angels in heaven
and God above.
Have blessed me with
a perpetual love.
Only once in a life time
can love be so true,
You complete my life.
Baby, I Love you...

Your angel is blessed to be loved by you!
You're near to my heart
On Valentine's Day
Wish we weren't apart
With lips so sweet
And the sexiest tush
It's because of you
That I'm such a mush
The way I feel
When I'm in your arms
You hold me so tight
And work all your charms
So Happy Valentine's Day
Across the miles
I send hugs and kisses
And "shortbread" smiles
Happy Valentine's Day, Jan!
Your poem is delightful and rings so true
Happy Heart day back to you!
Our marriage day with rituals galore
As I thought the day fine
With you as valentine
And never dreamt that I shall be man of ignore.
It was like putting my neck in guillotine
That before marriage couldn't be foreseen
As I was like an apple cut by knife
With your lectures and my strife
Still today we are in love with grin.
Your wrinkled face and dental cavity
With my bald head and eyesight frosty
Made the perfect balance
And in nuptial nuisance
We are enjoying with acts yummy.
The subject "love" brings my heart here to boast
Not that of myself, but of whom I love most
He's my guardian angel true by my side
He's my husband my lover my anchor my guide
Content, com passioned, awake, embraced
Composing the rhythm of our song face to face
A train in the distance sounds the dawn of this day
Long before it arrives we are taken away...
Long before it arrives we are taken away...
All dreams conclude, a new day begun
Before feet touch the floor
Before eyes see the sun...
We are One
Yum.
If I were a skeeter,
hanging on the wall
with daddy-long legss
and a needle for a nose—
with those multiple eyes
I could look all around,
get my head on my shoulders,
and my feet on the ground.
I could sit there and think
'til I fin'ly come to
that the best place to eat
is with my needle in you.
Of course you would swear
and get very coarse
fleas are persistant
but skeeters are worse.
The outcome is this:
I would sit there and chug
in my heavenly bliss.
You'd be bugged
and somewhat pissed;
but all the same
it comes down to this:
you're so sweet, I just can't resist.

(Though I'd rather sit and eat my fudge)
Mary C Legg wrote a most original rhyme
I still loved it the second time
Jeannie S. wrote a sexy song
Words like that could never be wrong
Manoj has love and humor too
I'm sure he probably tickled you
I've read them all with love and care
Deciding isn't easy
In this contest there is no fair
And I am feeling queezy
Two submissions caught my eye
And captured my heart like a magnet
So I am going to call a tie
To end this cupid dragnet
carolion grailbear and Jeannie S.
Are the winners of this Valentine Rhyme

It was a lovefest and onederful time.
A visit from two of my grandchildren while I was working in the library this morning, and now this - Yeeha!!!!!
I'm thankful mine was awarded at least two lungs............
John, what will you breathe with from now on????
Besides welcoming Lora M. to Gather again, I would like to
Apologise for not commenting directly about her warmly written Hearts on Fire poem and for not noticing how she sweetly tried to get my attention about it.
