IT'S FINALLY HERE! Gather's first Fourth of July Picnic hosted by the Old Hippies Corner (OHC) is officially underway, WELCOME TO GATHERSTOCK!
I hope you didn't have any problem finding parking in the pasture behind the OHC barn. By now you've all met Molly, she was the big gal checking you in at the OHC gate. Molly, Elko Mono, and Sage are part of the onsite Possum Posse and will help guide you around to all the attractions and entertainment to hopefully make this a very memorable Fourth of July. You'll have a chance to interact with them throughout the day.
For the new folks just arriving:
1) Gatherstock is open to all Gather Members. It is not necessary to join the Old Hippies Corner but it might be convenient since many of the postings and links are gathered there. For more detailed instructions and a quick guide to posting and links click here: How does Gatherstock Work?
2) Like the First OHC Contest, all posts will be added to the OHC time capsule. It will to be planted with great celebration later this year in a remote location of Nevada (see the Colonel's images Time Capsule)
To get things kicked off I'd like you to sing a few bars of a tune created for our celebration by Dannielle S.. She is to Gatherstock as Joni Mitchell was to Woodstock in that memorable tune by the same name.
OHC Picnic: theme song
by Dannielle S.
(To the tune of Woody Guthrie's Do-Re-Me)
Lots of hippies ev'ry day are losin' hair or turnin' grey
Lookin' back to tell a tale of what seemed better times
Remember when we grew our own or built ourselves a homemade bowl?
Some of us just learned to roll -- that's all in the past...
But we still have some good times here and now
Let me tell ya, brother, this is how:
[chorus]
We hang out at OHC, boys
We hang out at OHC
With picnics, reminiscing, and confessions,
pets and photos and some awesome recipes!
Lookin' backwards at a garden of Eden
Blue-hazed memories of how life used to be...
Well, believe it or not, there's still life after pot
Come hang with us at OHC!
OK, while you're whistling that tune, Sage take you to our first stop, the Foovay Petting Zoo. She will introduce you to Summer Foovay, an honored member of the Possum posse, who has been helping us put this exotic collection together at the OHC for several weeks.
OHC 4th of July picnic - Welcome to Foovay's Petting Zoo!
After the zoo tour, Sage will take you up to the OHC porch for a cold one. We'll all come back to the porch after the concerts and barbeque to enjoy fireworks over Blue Bayou. At the south end of the porch please visit the wonderful drawings of Jude Cowell and join her in a Limerick for the day. I believe, Dannielle S. may be setting up at the opposite end of the porch for some midday banjo pickn'. Enjoy a piece of the crazy Fourth of July cakethat Donna C. cooked up for the party!
/viewSinglePhoto.jsp?fileId=3096224743860313&grpId=3659174697239425
To cool off, please free to enjoy the bayou. If you are feeling a bit adventurous, Marlene Blanco ,the OHC 100% Cajun wild woman, will be glad to take you a little further down the bayou in her bateau to catch some catfish. When you're down at the dock make sure you sit in the floating psychedelic solar-powered rocking chair rigged up by Mariana T. Those two might even take you to a Bayou bar for another cold one, cha! Don't worry about the two OHC gators. Tante Marie will be on her chain all day, and T'Billy has never hurt a partygoer yet!
For our international guests, I invite you to check-in at the Martha Jette International booth behind the barn next to the Aid station. I think Martha plans to DJ from the hayloft some cool "Oldies but Goodies" between band sets.
Cheryl C. and Big Molly have set up some cool games in the back pasture. One is scrabble with one-foot square pieces and then there is Gigantic Team Coquet with painted bowling balls and axe handled mallets.
Have a great day and I hope to see you later on to show you the rest of the OHC and introduce you to more members of the Posse. In the meantime checkout this!

Welcome to Gatherstock! You are the first one in the gate. Sorry for the delay, a few technical problems at the OHC Operations center this morning. You've made history as #1 guest!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
It's all good!
*shakes little sheep ass*
Glad to be number one!
I'm so glad you're here, Leah beat you by an inch. Follow sage up to the Food concession booth and I will join you in a moment. I need to post one more picture!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
I'm still on my morning coffee but I'll take some vodka in my juice!
And after that bring on the cuban drinks--I'm a huge mojito fan w/ mint from the garden!
Bless your soul for pouring our first guests a drink. The ole Colonel is running his tail off trying to get the Possum posse in gear! i need a cold one!!
BRB,
Colonel Possum
Colonel: what is your favorite beer? Are you a microbrew kinda guy? We've got some great beers here in New England...
Don't worry about Tante marie the gator. She's only nipped one other guest and that was 10 years ago. Just give her a little of Donna's fruit salad!
BRB
Colonel Possum
I love all beer! Samuel Adams is good when I'm not guzzling Coors Lite but I bet you've got some goodies back there!!!
Col. P.
Yes we do! Although I like a good Sam Adams Summer--I love how Berkshire Brewing Co puts a case together of all different types! A mix-pak if you will. :)
Salud,
There's nothing wrong with double-fisting. I'll take one of those Coronas too!
Gotta get off my ass and make my strawberry shortcake (for real now).
*slurp*
I'll have to check out Berkshire. Thanks for posting a link for the other guests.
I just sent Elko Mono (Big Molly's sister) to the New Orleans airport. She's going to pick up Martha Jette who is flying in on Air Canada! Oooh-Weeee,
that crazy Canadian should be here soon!
Oh-oh...got to help Summer feed the animals in the zoo. The local bands are just starting to arrive.
BRB
Colonel Possum
I'm so glad you're here! Yeah I'll be down at the BBQ pits in a little while to light up too!
If you want to see something hilarious go over to the pasture behind the big sound stage. Big Molly and Cheryl are doing practice shots on the Gigantic Team Croquet Court. Molly just whacked a bowling ball into the bayou!!
Oh, got to go they're hollering for me at the Aid Station!
BRB,
Colonel Possum
Make yourself at home. Try some of Donnna's fruit salad and Mariana just brought over lots of Coronas. Got to check out some sound equipment...
BRB
Colonel Possum
Happy 4th to all.
L.
It has been a while, sure glad you suggested I do a group! Checkout the Gigantic Scrabble Board over in the pasture area!
Lloyd,
Great to see you at the OHC. I loved that Sebastian tune too. Pony tail may be gone but the heart doesn't change. Hey, checkout T'Billy down by the dock and I'll bring you a cold one. He doesn't bite, just rub his belly a little.
BRB,
Colonel (busy as a nutria swimming in the swamp) Possum
Btw, the shortcake came out kick-ass, and you are all welcome to dig in. Nothing wrong with dessert Before dinner!!
I'm on my way back to the porch. You can take off that wool coat, it ain't snowing here! Say, Mariana just brought some awesome corn over at the BBQ area check it out!
Mariana's Chili Lime Grilled Corn
Now for some of Leah's dessert!!!
Colonel Possum
Oh yeah ..bummer man..... somebody took a swim with my backpack dude, my stash needs to dry out in the sun.
Wheres the Maharishi Wolfster at?
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh mannn i just saw it..................RainDance/MudBath.
I hear we are going to have some good tunes, and fine food.
Hey, does that dog bite?
Baked Beans and Bacon
Just got back late last nite from Grateful Fest 7..... So great to join you here. Brought some goodies to share, and a freedom haiku, too!
Yikes! That sounds like my '67 "Old Blue." I'll get Marley down there with the backhoe.
Hey, I'm having so more probl;ems with those Grateful Dead amplifiers from the "Tower of Power" that I bought on E-bay. Could you report to the Big Sound Stage??
Thanks,
Colonel Possum
Whoa! Glad you're here and thanks for bringing by the cool guests. The beverages are on the porch. Your friends can jam on the stage in the OHC truck Hi-Bay then join the concert later on the Big Stage. George should have the Tower of Power fixed by then!
I got so busy last night I forgot to sign your guestbook (but I will). After you get a cool one would you go to the T-Shirt booth and see if they're printing your images correctly? Thanks
BRB,
Busy Colonel
By the way, you ARE allowing fireworks, aren't you Colonel? I took a trip in a time machine last night, brought back a half-gross of cherry bombs. No M80's, I was told you could not be trusted with them!
I just pulled the back off of one of those Grateful Dead amps and, I hate to tell you this but, there's noting inside except a couple of red bricks, that have tubes painted on them. Didn't you notice that the power cord was a piece of clothesline painted black ?
Not to fear, I have my Shure Vocal Columns in the trunk.
Glad you're back. I might need your help over at the Gigantic Scrabble Board later. I'll check back in a moment. By the way, Molly and Cheryl have simplified the rules:
1) any word in a Rock n' Roll band name
2) you get as many letters as you want but you've got to paint them as you go on one-foot square chunks of plywood.
3) each square is worth 1 point
4) you have to drink a beverage of your choice for each play
Cheryl started with DEAD (across)
Big Molly played EAGLES (down on Cheryl's E)
Home gamers can keep track and help them out. They've went back to the shed to get some more paint and drinks.
BRB
Colonel Possum
Phew, you saved the day! Sage will show where to tie into house power, Ludo can bring up his musician buddies if you want to sound check.
John,
You can take your horse over to the Foovay Zoo. Summer has some pretty tame mustangs over there! Lemonade is right by the Aid Station behind BBQ pit #4.
Thanks all,
Col. P
Those beans smell delicious! Please place them over by the food concession booth, you can follow John who just left to get lemonade. You might want to join Aileen over at the Gigantic Scrabble Board behind the Big Sound Stage. Make yourself at home at the OHC!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum
Get a cold one on the porch and I'll be up in a minute to hear all about Grateful Fest 7! Thanks for the link.
Rock on!
Col. P.
by Tom Paxton
Someone had the right idea out in Iowa.
Palo Alto County had its own straw poll.
Folks who listened to their radio
Were told to flush their toilets so
Their candidate might win the Super Bowl.
Folks in Emmetsburg have got things in perspective
And good common sense that they rely upon.
When the beaming smiles and golden throats
Come shaking hands and begging votes,
The folks in Emmetsburg head for the john.
If you love that politician, pull the chain.
Send the world of woe and trouble down the drain.
It's the road to satisfaction.
It's a natural reaction.
If you love that politician, pull the chain.
If you like the things he said, use your head.
You can show the world you think he's thoroughbred.
Choose a favorite son or daughter
With a little running water.
If you like the things he said, use your head.
Do you get that familiar feeling
When you hear the things they say?
When they hum their familiar tunes
Do your thoughts all turn to prunes?
Are you headed for Hernando's Hideaway?
If the man gets through to you, use your loo.
If he's not Number One, he's Number Two.
He's the greatest guy on earth.
Why don't you show him what he's worth?
If the man gets through to you, use your loo.
If you love that politician, pull the chain (pull the chain).
Send the world of woe and trouble down the drain.
It's the road to satisfaction.
It's a natural reaction.
If you love that politician, pull the chain.
When you see the ruling gentry,
Why, the answer's alimentary.
If you love that politician, pull the chain.
Hey I heard you roar up the drive. Say, folks check out Tom's cherry GTO when you get a chance!
Yeah, I lost my pyrotechnic mayhem license a while back. Cherry bombs are way cool. We're going to shoot off the big stuff a good distnace from the Foovay Zoo so we don't spook the horses. Most of the fireworks are stacked up under the oak tree by the Gigantic Team Croquet court (see Big Molly).
Thanks for coming good buddy!
Colonel Possum
I checked on the shirts they look so kool - its Gatherstock not GATHER-S-T-I-C-K right?????????/
Oh an' man I found this huge cookie with my initial on it a big "L" and tried to eat it and all the Scrabble people weren't givin' me any love - my bad dude.
I got fresh eggs in my rainbow coloured VW micro-bus from Harriet the resident chicken - shes been to them all...... Woodstick, Minteray, she even saw "the Plane" launching Surrealistic Pillow. I call Harriet my Hippy-Chick, actually she's my only chick! Bummer eh man?
Col. P, NASA called to complain about the beamport. I won't be able to stay long if they make you shut it down.
Now, where's the hot dogs and baked beans?
You can join Dannielle later for a sing-along with that tune! Martha is awesome! I better check this T-Shirt stuff out myself, sounds like someones toking!
Need to take the dogs down to the bayou, be back in 5,
Col. P.

The Vocal Master is up and running. 100 watts of raw power. I set up six mics, three on straight stands and three on booms. Tell the bands that when they carry their stuff across the field to the stage to keep their shoes on. Crossing that field barefoot is not a good idea. Trust me, I found out the hard way.
What was it Dylan sang ?
" Just like old Saxophone Joe
When he's got the hogshead up on his toe
Oh me, oh my
Love that cow pie "
Wait a minute, that was country pie wasn't it ?
Whoa it is nice to see you again! Don't worry about NASA, we can keep the beam port open until launch and they might abort. Of course if they launch you'll have to stay until fireworks which ain't all bad!
Thanks for getting Giant Scrabble going! I'm concerned that Big Molly wants a drink for every letter instead of every word! Whoa!
By my count its 10 Cheyl, 6 Molly so far.
Good Luck,
Colonel Possum
Thanks for coming. I'll ask on the PA if anyone can help you with your technical music problem...just a second...
ATTENTION... ROCK ON FOLKS!...THIS IS THE COLONEL...WE NEED SOME COMPUTER SAVY HELP AT THE AID STATION FOR RICK McGIRR...HE'S BROUGHT SOME OF HIS COOL MUSIC...AND I WANT TO HEAR IT...

Cheers,
Colonel Possum
I just woke up just a short time ago. The cats scored some primo Hawaiian catnip yesterday and they already have the bong fired up. Saw Jesus last night on the Fox Channel. Man, that dude hasn't changed a bit. A herd of pink Tasmanian ground squirrels came by and grazed on the grass on the front lawn this morning, so I won't have to mow it for a long time. The walls in the guest room are starting to breath again. They weren't doing very well, lots of coughing and wheezing, so I rubbed Vick's Vapor Rub all over them. It seems to be working. They should be fine for the exorcism we are going to have next weekend.
Hey, it looks like a good party here. I have a suprise for you too. I'll post it once it's finished. Peace Bro.
Colonel Possum
Martha- where's the binoculars? Maybe we can see it from here.
Sheet, damn, howdy...........there she goes!!!
Yohh Colonel - the alternative entertainment ICEBREAKER for the LADIES has just started on a side stage - i think there might be a riot. Check it out man. whatever you do dont send any ladies over there....................................................
Aileen, Ludo just walked by and his feet weren't touching the ground! Please, grab one of those cookies for me and keep Ludo away from Cheryl's Beam Port.
Tom,
Big Molly wants to race "Miss Pete" against the goat later today. Now, Miss Pete is a '66 351 Peterbilt with a 335 Cummins but she is not a GTO. I say give her 150 yards and go for the quarter mile stretch down by the hog pen!
Good Luck,
Colonel Possum
