Since the American Legion no longer has its annual 4th of July bash, most of us here in the tiny hamlet of Franklin, La. will have private parties. I am invited to several. I'll either be playing crochet, riding on the party barge, floating in the pool, eating or drinking. Perhaps I'll ride in one of the seaplanes or maybe just motor down the bayous. My good friend Marley has her wonderful yard festooned with red, white and blue decorations! I do miss the old days at the Legion. Daddy was the one in charge of the fireworks! Oh, now that was fun. He could read Spanish and everything was written in tiny little mispelled instructions. We still enjoyed the fizzle of the ones that didn't explode into huge luminous lights. I'm sure I'll find some fireworks going on around here.
Also, I will be checking in at the Old Hippie's Corner. It seems that Richard B. is having a wild online party. Bonnie L. has named it Gatherstock. I hope all of you will attend. I just finished laughing my head off at some of the comments on Richard B.'s last post about the Fourth of July picnic.
I wish all of you a wonderful and safe Fourth of July. I will be flying my flag.
Salud

Thank you for a snap shot of the Franklin Fourth old and new. We enjoyed unwrapping the spent fireworks to read the Japanese newsprint!
Here's a link to Gatherstock for any newcomers:

Thanks again!

Have a Blast! Make some memories and eat some shrimp for me.
I love July 4th.
Fun to read write up Mariana! I feel like I am going to be there.
THIS possum waddles up from the woods--I've watched her approach before--although this time she managed a surprise attack. I know SOME Possums would never waddle up from anywhere or ruin all my purple and white flowers.
And SOME Possums wouldn't throw grubs or worms on the 4th of July grill either--at least...I hope not!
I'm quite sure she has babies every summer to feed, too, and after all, I was able to save the flowers (I think--time will tell!).
Maybe she likes flowers with her midnight snack!
Grilled grubs Could Be savory, I suppose, with the right hot sauce liberally sprinkled, I guarantee...
Around here, the day is a co-celebration with my neighbor-two-houses-down's birthday-- this year he turns 65 so it's supposedly a "big deal." The immediate next door neighbor adds to the show with a trailer load of fireworks.
Peace to you, Mariana.
See you soon
While I've never been to Louisiana, it just seems like a great place to be on the Fourth of July. Fresh seafood, sizzling hot music, drink and people all with eyes to the sky once darkness sets in. Here, we'll grill some shish kabobs and brats and watch fireworks to the tunes of a local band. And maybe even check in on Gatherstock. Are we all invited? Gotta love the Fourth!
By the way, you sure are looking pretty relaxed in that there picture!
Lots of cookin', bakin', and eatin' going on around here...not to mention watching the fireworks in the next little burg over! :)
My bamboo windchimes are enticing the cicadas to play their music to us this early evening as I watch our lovely neighbor read a novel on the bliss of southern life.
May the dawn's early light fill you with Love, light, and blessings~Mama T
Mariana...i`ll take a full moon and a little display of fireworks......and something soft to lay my head apon............happy 4th ......oh and some Steamed garlic lemon Chicken?!?!?!?
As much as I love to party it up, since my son has developed a habit of waking up at 5:45 lately, I'll probably be playing it on the safe side. Enjoy and be safe!
