I am sharing this information from a Congressional meeting on September 26,2007. I learned of this from an email I get from FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform).

DRIVER'S LICENSES FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
(Mr. KUHL of New York asked and was given permission to address the
House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)
Mr. KUHL of New York. Mr. Speaker, on Friday of this past week, New
York's Governor, Eliot Spitzer, announced his immigration policy, which
allows immigrants, including those entering the country illegally, to
obtain driver's licenses. This decision solidifies the need for more
aggressive immigration legislation in these United States.
Why are we rewarding the people who are coming here illegally at the
expense of others who are law-abiding citizens?
Inviting potential terrorists into the State and allowing them to
drive whenever they wish undermines the preventive measures that
protect our country from national security threats.
Let's not forget that September 11, 2001, hijackers had at least 35
licenses which helped them to rent cars and open bank accounts.
In addition, it will wreak havoc on our social services programs and
create a massive flooding of illegal immigrants to New York State,
straining our resources in our schools and our hospitals.
We need real immigration legislation that strengthens our borders and
does not diminish our national security by granting more privileges to
those who have entered this country illegally.

What do you think about this? I think it's an outrage that any politician would think of such a thing, let alone try and implement it. It's bad enough all of the things that illegals are able to get thanks to many government officials and businesses. One day I will come across some information that makes it seem the politicians of this country are waking up and taking the situation with illegals seriously, and the next day I will read something like this. I guess it's one step forward, two steps back. It's so hard to believe that people who don't even live here, who don't even have the best interests of this country at heart, seem to be being given priveledges they don't deserve.

The only upside to this plan is: We would at least have these people registered with a physical address and they would have to take licensing exams to have a license-yes?
We have to take exams to get a license and so should they.
But I would like this too:
I would like our country to stop paying/covering ER visits and healthcare to illegals who do not pay income taxes for their jobs. Healthcare for those who are not insured is code for: Healthcare for illegals who get sick and flood our ER's. 60% of LA county med facilities have been closed due to this problem alone.
I think we should stop giving out free services to people who have no respect for our laws.
If I had insurance but didn't pay the premiums would I still have a license? We in NY are covered to I think up to $25,000 for uninsured motorist, what happens after that?
I still say SUE SPITZER personally. Make his life miserable, he is making ours.
