OK Governor Brad Henry Signs Bill Denying Services, Licenses To Illegal Aliens
A victory was scored in Oklahoma as Governor Brad Henry signed House Bill 1804. The bill makes it mandatory for businesses to use the Basic Pilot Program, denies licenses and ID cards to illegal aliens and requires state and local agencies to verify immigration status and citizenship before applicants can receive benefits. This is the toughest law in the country at the state level. The Governor didn't seem too pleased at having to sign it, but the bill was passed in the House by a vote of 84-14 and in the Senate by a vote of 41-6. An overwhelming passage that showed the absolute outrage at the invasion of illegal aliens. If Governor Henry had vetoed it his veto would have been overruled. So to avoid that he signed the bill, but said "While some will undoubtedly claim this state legislation is a landmark step forward, the truth of the matter is we will not effectively address immigration reform until the federal government acts," So, it seems Governor Henry, a Democrat, isn't too happy about having to sign it and wants an amnesty program. However, the real winners are the Oklahomans who, like the rest of Americans, have been getting ripped off as their taxpayer funds are spent to support the continued flow of illegal aliens into this country and into their state. One part of the bill that is lacking is the in-state tuition portion, which still allows in-state tuition for children of illegal aliens, but only if they apply for citizenship within one year. I'm not sure if this is bad though, since what illegal alien in their right mind would file for citizenship when they aren't even legal residents? Citizenship standards require you to have resided legally in the United States for years. The one loophole in the bill is that it says you have to apply, it doesn't say you have to receive citizenship. For the Basic Pilot portion of the bill, it will go into effect for public companies on November 1, 2007 and for private companies on July 1, 2008. By that time the companies have to be using the system for all new hires. I'd just like to point out that this will have no effect whatsoever on legal immigrants, both Hispanic and non-Hispanic. Are lawsuits coming? You Bet!
Not going to solve one thing on immigration eh? Maybe not, but it'll solve some things regarding illegal immigration. I have one question for Pat Fennell. If it's not going to have an impact why are your fellow illegal alien supporters so scared that they are already looking at filing lawsuits? I don't understand why these groups continue to think that illegal aliens should have any right to US taxpayers money through social services? Their main complaint is that businesses lured them here with promises of work, but nobody forced anyone to come here and nobody is forcing them to stay. So if you're so mad that you're losing your free handout from the American people then get the hell out of our country! Tipped by: Stop The Invasion

Unless the Federal laws are ammended to reflect what the states are attempting,, it will be a lot of red tape and hoopla but..no real change. Every case WILL be challenged.
Bob is correct: The businesses will have headaches. Neighbors WILL be turning in neighbors... plenty of business men will be annoyed at the loss of their cheap labor....and only the laywers will benefit---At First....
However: Once the local and state governments begin the trend, it is a domino effect , state by state, senator by senator...and then the Federal laws WILL reflect our wishes.
It is a step in the right direction!
Yay OOOOOOkalhoma!
While they are here illegally and they do not file a federal Income tax, there are still ways that they contribute. That doesn't mean that I condone illegal immigration, it just means that I think there are 2 sides to every story.
In the early 80s I worked for a business that hired illegal aliens. I had nothing to do with it and needed the job badly. AFAIK they went to regular grocery stores, K-Mart, and all kinds of other regular businesses.
I'm surprised to hear that people who enter the country illegally are united enough to have large-scale secret enterprises known only to them. How do they hook up with this network?
You're right! Here, they have taken over the flea markets, and buy and sell everything from produce to electronic knock-offs, clothes you name it. What they also do is converge on neighborhood garage sales by the truck/van load, buying up merchandise cheap so they can re-sell it at the flea market. No taxes paid OR collected! Oooh! The stories I could tell you!
No matter how much you support the illegal invaders--------the majority in this country want them gone!!
The Hazleton decision is going to be overturned through the appeal process-----many attorneys have already stated this based on the details from the hearing, the ruling, and the reasoning behind the ruling.
The results of Hazleton does not matter in these other cities/states------as another judge could rule the complete opposite to how the judge in Hazleton ruled.
The money these cities/states spend to force illegals to leave------will never outweigh the money it costs cities/states for them to stay------and drop their 3-10 anchor babies as well!!
You forgot about the church/community food boxes as well--------a lot of them do not even buy food------they go around to as many places as possible to get the "free" food boxes.
I am sure that the majority in this country would also like to be able to pay just sales taxes!!
I saw the food box schemes/scams plenty of times when I lived in Phoenix!!
Many of these people are good souls. Surprised that I say that? I am fully aware that they come here to improve their lives, and those of the children. Still, to do so illegally is wrong. They need to get in line and do it the right way. How many of us have ancestors who came here with nothing? How many of them started here well before there was any kind of public assistance? Our ancestors worked hard for everything. They did it legally. They became citizens. They built this country. Legally.
Don't check the status of anyone coming into this country???? She has all the dialog and supports all the concerns of a TERRORIST.
This argument about how illegals "pay taxes too" PAALEEZE! I would like to pay $1 for every $3 in benefits, wait, no I wouldn't then that would make me illegal or a politician.
Hey politicians listen up, watch CNN. The drug gangs in Guatemala City are controlling the Goverment. They have had 61 violent attacks, 26 dead and 7 of them are CONGRESSMAN. Keep voting against securing this country and you better have plenty of body bags because the drug lords are already here, thanks to you.
in gather. I guess I'll direct the readers to my recent posts which already refuted the absurd claim of PJ that IAs add a $20 Billion surplus to Social Security, and the equally off statement that in the Hazelton law, federal law supercedes state law.
Reality Check : see my posts : Social Security for Illegal Aliens Petition, 8/1 4:51pm and 8/4-12;13pm and : They always start with........8/4 - 10:55am.
The Hazelton law is in conformance with a 1986 US Supreme Court ruling, and
Hazelton was given permission by an 1986 act of US Congress, to penalize employers of IAs. That's why, as Brenda pointed act, Judge Munley's decision is not
likely to survive in Philadelphia, this Fall. The Hazelton et al's laws are not superceded by federal law, because they ARE federal law.
You can shout all you want that the State's laws WILL BR overturned. But the truth is and will always be that Federal law supercedes State law. No matter how much you dislike it...the Feds will always control.
And Hazelton is NOT Federal law, it was State Law....thats the REASON it didn't pass the test! And neither will Farmer's Branch which has already had local judges to declare it unconstitutional.
As far as your claim that they do not add to Social Security, you need to get your news from more reliable sources!
Social Security Agreement with Mexico Released After 3-1/2 Year Freedom of Information Act Battle
Illegal Mexican Workers Could Receive Billions of Dollars from U.S. Social Security System
January 4, 2007 (Washington, DC) – After numerous refusals over three and a half years, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has released the first known public copy of the U.S.-Mexico Social Security Totalization Agreement. The government made the disclosure in response to lawsuits filed under the Freedom of Information Act by TREA Senior Citizens League, a 1.2 million member nonpartisan seniors advocacy group.
The Totalization Agreement could allow millions of illegal Mexican workers to draw billions of dollars from the U.S. Social Security Trust Fund.
A loophole in current Social Security law could allow millions of today's Mexican workers to eventually collect billions of dollars worth of Social Security benefits for earnings under fraudulent or "non-work authorized" Social Security numbers, putting huge new pressures on the Social Security Trust Fund.
If an illegal worker working in the United States today gets a "work authorized" Social Security number through guest worker immigration legislation, the Totalization Agreement, or perhaps just over time, that worker could eventually apply for Social Security benefits once he or she has met eligibility requirements.
In addition, that worker could be able to claim credits for work performed while in the U.S. illegally. The SSA maintains an "earnings suspense file," which tracks wages that cannot be posted to individual workers' records because there is no match for a name and Social Security number. Once an immigrant gains access to a work authorized Social Security number – whether a legal citizen or not – wages earned while in the U.S. unlawfully could be reinstated to the worker's new Social Security account.
The Congressional Research Service reports the earnings suspense file currently stands at approximately $520 billion. According to the congressional testimony of SSA Inspector General Patrick P. O'Carroll in February 2006, "We believe the chief cause of wage items being posted to the earnings suspense file instead of an individual's earning record is unauthorized work by non citizens."
The agreement between the U.S. and Mexico was signed in June 2004, and is awaiting President Bush's signature. Once President Bush approves the agreement, which would be done without Congressional vote, either House of Congress would have 60 days to disapprove the agreement by voting to reject it.
"The Social Security Administration itself warns that Social Security is within decades of bankruptcy – yet, they seem to have no problem making agreements that hasten its demise," said Ralph McCutchen, Chairman of the TREA Senior Citizens League. "Our 1.2 million elderly members didn't sacrifice through difficult times so we could fund millions of workers who crossed the border and decided to work here illegally."
The U.S. currently has 21 similar agreements in effect with other nations, which are intended to eliminate dual taxation for persons who work outside their country of origin. All of the agreements are with developed nations with economies similar to that of the U.S.
For example, a worker who turns 62 after 1990 generally needs 40 calendar quarters of coverage to receive retirement benefits. Under totalization agreements, workers are allowed to combine earnings from both countries in order to qualify for benefits. The Agreement with Mexico, like other totalization agreements, would allow workers to qualify with just six quarters, or 18 months, of U.S. coverage.
But Mexico's retirement system is radically different than that of other participating countries. For example, only 40 percent of non-government workers participate in Mexico's system, whereas 96 percent of America's non-government workers do. In addition, the U.S. system is progressive, meaning lower wage earners get back much more than they put in; in Mexico, workers get back only what they put in, plus accrued interest.
I take it you get your reliable sources from La Raza headquarters Pj.
Not all Federal laws supercede state laws. There is something in the Bill of rights about allowing the states to govern themselves without federal interference. I say Right On to the governor.
I know what you mean about having to repeat everything time and time again.
PJ is clueless-----it has been pointed out numerous times by numerous people.
During the last election-----Arizona citizens voted on and passed 4 citizen "illegals get out" initiatives that passed by over 70%. Last month, the governor of Arizona was taken to court by citizens who organized and placed those initiatives on the ballot during the last elections----due to the fact that they did not feel that the governor was doing enough to enforce them. The judge ruled in favor of the citizens----and the governor was ordered to start enforcing the laws/props that were passed!!!
What I see happening is if enough states adopt the Basic Pilot Progam and put it to State Law its going to force Federal Law Makers into backing it if they want to get re-elected.
PJ,
In the town I live in the Hispanics and Illegals opened there own Grocery Store and put all the signs and food tags in Spanish in the store. We wont have to worry to long about that store though because Wal-Mart said they are going to shut them down soon after they open. Now we get to fight the Chinese Wal-Mart invaders too.
Me neither!!
One place near us is called the Swap shop and another not far is just n open air market ...they also know all the ins and outs on getting free health care, many of them come to the US to have procedures done for nothing and then go back home skipping on the bill. Talk to an illegal and you'll hear from them, you want a drivers license, fake i.d., a gun, they know where to get it . They hook up with churches for free food cards for local large markets and clothing and one gal I"m aware of is getting free health care with rehab and rides to and from rehab.
