| U.S. Treasurer Extols the Virtues of Sending Money Out of the U.S. |
"A year and a half after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of thousands of Louisianans remain scattered across the country, unable to return to their homes for lack of jobs and lack of money to rebuild their lives. Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who faces re-election this November, has repeatedly sought federal assistance to help her state and its residents recover from the deadly storm.
So what was Louisiana State Treasurer John Kennedy doing in Mexico City in January, expressing his appreciation for workers from that country — many of them in the U.S. illegally — while countless Louisianans are pleading for the opportunity to go home and go to work? Speaking to the Mexico City Bankers Club, Kennedy said, “There is no doubt in my mind that we could not have made nearly the progress we have made without the working people from your country who have come to my state to rebuild.”
In case it wasn’t clear, Mr. Kennedy works for the people of Louisiana.
At that same meeting of the Mexico City Bankers Club, U.S. Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral (you’ll find her signature on the bills in your wallet) spoke glowingly about the remittances being sent by Mexicans working legally and illegally in the U.S. In 2006, an estimated $22 billion were shipped out of the U.S. economy and into Mexico. Cabral called remittances a driving force for Mexico’s economic growth.
In case it wasn’t clear, Ms. Cabral is actually the Treasurer of the United States."
Can anyone explain how the American people can get their country back? Can you imagine how much it would help the people from the devastated area if they could go there and get paid to rebuild? I simply don't understand this anymore.

The Mexican government will get everything it wants from Washington , to hell with Americans....................
Should just move DC to Mexico city????????
1. There are no afordable places for people to live. Many of the immigrants doing the work are sleeping in cars, tents or 10 to an apartment. Not exactly ideal for residents with families who want to return.
2. The pay. When the contracts went out for reconstruction, Bush suspended prevailing wage rates. A Halliburton subsidiary, for example, was awarded $32 per cubic foot for debris removeable. The amount they paid the person who actually did the work was $3 per cubic foot (who took a loss, but did the job). Contractors can hire immigrants for much less than they can hire Americans, they don't have to pay overtime, provide benefits, or in most cases even pay employment taxes, so they make much more money in profit. Those who have wised up to this offer their services directly to homeowners, who are willing to hire them because they will do the job for much less than what contractors are charging.
Until corporate greed is ended, this problem will never be solved.
What a moral shocker, race mixing!!
I am truly sorry to see that here. Who knows - with open respectful debate and exchange of ideas on a forum like this, we just might get lucky and come up with some ideas worth passing on to our Congressmen. I will follow this thread with interest.
