The Boston Herald reports new national polls show Americans are feeling less sympathy toward illegal aliens.
A Zogby International poll, conducted between March 31 and April 3, 2006, found the March demonstrations supporting rights for illegal aliens left three in five adults feeling less sympathetic toward undocumented workers.
Asked whether the protests have made likely voters more or less sympathetic towards undocumented workers, 32% said they are now more sympathetic to their plight, while 61% said they are less likely to be sympathetic as a result of the protests.
This Zogby polling data is in line with previous polling results by Quinnipiac University.
I was surprised last week to find even some of my liberal friends volunteer that they find the "Day Without Immigrants" demonstration offensive. Just as the Zogby poll found, my friends are concerned about the burden illegal aliens place on social services provided by governments, especially education and health care.
I know that my friends' reactions are just anecdotal, but coupled with the polling results it makes me think the "immigrants' rights" folks are overplaying their hand.

Same with China, the source of many illegals in NYC. When they're caught, China refuses to take them back. So then what do you do with them?
The hidden US hypocrisy is that we want them here so we can exploit them. They're a kind of semi-slave labor here. Keep in mind that a huge number of them become domestic servants. For business, they're a source of ultra-cheap labor with not rights and no benefits. Give them amnesty and eventual citizenship, and they cost money to employ because they then have rights. So the hypocritical employers then turn to the next wave of illegals and this becomes an endless process. This has been going on for how long now? Think about it.
This CNN Money has some interesting points on the studies about the impact of illegal immigrants.
