Precious the movie is based off of the book Push by Sapphire. It is about a young woman who goes through years and years of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. She is pregnant with her second child at sixteen; everyone in her life has turned their backs or been a source of abuse. Precious, who is illiterate, overweight, and unhappy, is invited to enroll in an alternative school in the hopes that she her life will change directions.
The film will be playing in select theaters beginning November 6th. It is Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe's first film, starring alongside Mariah Carey, Paula Patton, Mo'Nique, and Lenny Kravitz. The film is produced by Oprah and Tyler Perry--who were both victims of abuse growing up.
