This is a review that differs greatly from the professional movie reviewers. I saw this film with a 10-year-old and 12-year-old, we all enjoyed it. In fact, the theater was about 75 percent full and I heard loud chuckles, sincere laughter and applause at the end. My observation is born out in the revenue information this week too. Alvin, although it has been out a couple of week, actually made more money and moved up on the top grossing film list.If you grew up with Chipmunks like I did, it takes a few minutes to adjust to the new animated fuzzy creatures. During the first five minutes of the movie I was really skeptical, but once the chipmunks began interacting with humans, I got caught up in the story. This is a true family movie, I heard no four-letter words, and there was no violence, death, or sexual situations. The only kiss comes when one of the Chipmunks kisses Dave on the cheek and the only "nudity" happens when Dave interrupts Alvin showering in the dishwasher. The Chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, have the same personalities as the classic version. Dave Seville is a down-on-his-luck song writer that meets up with the Chipmunks and has his life turned upside down. Dave sees the Chipmunks as children and seeks to protect them from the lime light after their Christmastime song become an instant hit. The bad guy is the record producer that will do anything to make money and seeks to exploit the Chipmunks with no concern for their health or safety. Not a bad theme in an age of child stars in rehab or jail like Britney Spears and Lindsey Lohan. Overall, it was enjoyable film that left you feeling good and made you want to hug your kids. With so few true family movies out there, this was pleasant surprise. Don't listen to the reviewers, take your kids to see, I do not believe you will disappointed.
