In the past week, Josh & I have seen 2 fun, hilarious movies.
Last Friday night we saw "Enchanted." Most people think this is a kid's movie, since it starts off animated, and although it's billed as one, I think it's really great for grown ups too. No one I know who's seen this has disliked it - all I hear are GREAT reviews.
The cast is great and the acting is as well. The plot is about a cartoon damsel, Giselle (Amy Adams from "Catch Me If You Can" and "Drop Dead Gorgeous"), who meets a prince (James Marsden of "The X-Men" movies). They fall in love and plan to get married, until his evil stepmother (Susan Sarandon) pushes Giselle into another "kingdom" - New York City. Luckily, Giselle meets Robert (Patrick Dempsey from "Grey's Anatomy"), who helps her out.
You have to suspend disbelief a bit (hello? Cartoon worlds?), but it's a really great movie and I laughed the entire time. I can't wait to see it again!
The other movie we saw was "Juno." This is a very appropriate movie right now, as it deals with a 16 year old getting pregnant (can we say Jamie Lynn Spears?). While the incredibly witty dialogue is not quite something a 16 year old would normally say, it's fun to listen to! The cast is awesomely acted. Michael Cera (from "Superbad") is great as the guy who knocks her up, but my 2 favorites are her parents - J.K. Simmons (from "Law & Order" and the "Spiderman" movies) and Allison Janney (from "The West Wing"). Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner are really great as the potentially adoptive parents too.
I don't want to say too much without giving either movie away, but I highly recommend them both. If you're only going to see 1, I would say "Juno." I'm not a movie-crier, but it had me reaching for the tissues!
On another note, I'm not sure if I ever wrote about "No Country For Old Men" on here, but despite it being called the best movie of 2007, I was so disappointed. The ending left me saying "what the hell?" and it was awfully violent. But maybe it's just not my type of movie.
Happy New Year!
