I Am Legend – The Review
My family and I went to see I Am Legend tonight. I have to admit that I was disappointed. In all fairness to Will Smith, it was my fault with my silly expectations. I loved Independence Day and Men in Black. I was looking for that kind of movie. So my expectations probably played a large part in my negative feelings towards the movie.
The premise of I Am Legend is that a scientist stays in New York to try to cure a disease that has stricken those who have taken a cancer vaccine. Lucky for him, he is immune to it. Unlucky for him, no one else in New York seems to have survived. The disease doesn't kill everyone, it causes some to become bizarre scary creatures that live in the night and feed on other people (those who have survived the vaccine).
There was no real Will Smith attitude or humor that I've enjoyed in his previous movies. In fact, this one had the feel of Signs meets a zombie movie. In fact, I think if you liked signs you "might" like this movie. Though, to be honest, I liked Signs and hated this movie. It was scary. It is definitely not a movie I would take small children to see – or any child prone to nightmares.
I honestly felt the plot was rather weak, though Smith should be credited for his ability to hold the audience's attending when he was the only character for half of the movie. However, the characters were just not well developed enough to form much of an attachment to.
To be fair, my husband and both sons (ages 12 and 15) liked the movie. I was just disappointed. The movie was very intense. Normally, after a movie we talk about our favorite parts, but for some reason that discussion ended rather quickly.
If you are looking for a psychological scary movie this is the movie for you. It isn't overly gory. It is more about scaring you without showing too much violence. If you are looking for a good old fashioned adventure, I think National Treasure is coming out pretty soon.

Now during the summer. I do like to take in a good drive-in movie. =)
I cannot wait to see National Treasure. Anything with Nicholas Cage is a must see for me. lol
For you~ =)
Happy Holidays~
on DVD and I appreciate your taking time to
give this review of it.
I like psychological thrillers....so I might like it.
For whatever it's worth, though, I did see National Treasure 2 and didn't care for it. Your profile mentions that you teach history -- if so, you might have the same objections I had to NT2. I hope not -- I hope you enjoy it. (But be prepared to pretend Olmecs were Aztecs and lived thousands of miles farther north than archaeology has discovered them.)
I was disappointed in this one too... My hubby liked it, me and my step-daughters didn't. I expected much more out of it. Same with "7 Pounds" - I expected it to be a GREAT movie and was highly disappointed...
Loved this movie........
