Win a Summer at the Movies

May 10, 2007 12:35 PM EDT (Updated: May 11, 2007 10:58 AM EDT)

When we think of summer we think of lazy days at the beach, family barbeques and of course…blockbuster movies! It's that time of year when we expect Hollywood to dazzle and amaze us with the cream of the crop of cinematic features.  Last weekend "Spider Man 3" opened to a record number of theaters and had the highest opening box office gross of all time. There's no telling what other records might be broken with the upcoming movies that will be released this summer. Even if no other major records are set, we will certainly be entertained. Just a sample of the most anticipated movies this summer include:

Shrek the Third

fileId:3096224744113593;size:inter;

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

 fileId:3096224744113674;size:inter;

Rush Hour 3

  fileId:3096224744113676;size:inter;

Ocean's Thirteen

  fileId:3096224744113677;size:inter;

A Mighty Heart

  fileId:3096224744113678;size:inter;

28 Weeks Later

  fileId:3096224744113679;size:inter;

Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix

 fileId:3096224744113680;size:inter;

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

   fileId:3096224744113682;size:inter;

Shrek the Third, definitely. I read that 28 days later got some bad reviews, and I am behind already on Harry Potter, and Oceans.

Pirates of the Carribean is my pick. The first two were awesome, and even if the third one isn't good, I get to look at Johnny Depp for two hours. So its a win-win deal for me...:)

Just heard that the next movie in the "Bourne" series is coming out this summer--had no idea they were even making a 4th, but definitely can't wait to see The Bourne Ultimatum!

Bring on Harry Potter! As Harry and gang get older, they show more depth in their character and interrelationships making the saga more interesting to watch.
It's my pick for a FIRST DAY of release attendance. The other one I would see is Fantastic Four-- the rest of them -- too many sequels.

I also would have to say Shrek the Third first. I think that movie has the potential to be just as funny and entertaining as the first two. I also am looking forward to Harry Potter and the Rise of the Silver Surfer. Bring on the movies!

I think the Harry Potter film is the one I am most looking forward to. Second, would be 'Pirates of the Caribbean.' I think the Harry Potter films are interesting to watch because we have seen this kids (both as actors and as the characters in the film) grow up. I think the series as a whole has momentium and although the book 'Order of the Phoenix' wasn't one of my favorites I think it will make for an interesting film.

Overall, it looks like a good summer for fun films!

Slightly curious to see Michael Moore's new movie, Sicko, about the health industry.

First it was Spider Man 3, but now, after finding out about Bourne Ultimatum, I have to say I can't wait to see Matt Damon returning as Jason Bourne. It's a great franchise and I hope they continue making more and more.

Definitely Shreck. I have to admit I loved the first two, and I'm anxiously awaiting thethird. Casting Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots was genius. I'm waiting to see if they were equally smart in casting Justin TImberlake.

I don't believe I could narrow it down to just ONE movie to put on my MUST SEE list... I am especially eager to see the new Harry Potter movie as well as Ocean's Thirteen, Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Four... Basically, all the sequels ot the films that I've loved over the past few years.

I started reading the first Harry Potter book to my son at bedtime, and by the time the third one came out, he was too impatient to let me read only one chapter a night, and was reading them himself. They were his first full length chapter books to read on his own.

These books have been really important to his whole generation -- and the movies are always discussed and anticipated (and sometimes a little dreaded -- how are they going to fit an even bigger volume into a 90 minute movie?) in our household -- by adult and kid.

Prates of the Carribean At Worlds End is my choice. I really love the humor and excitement of the Pirates of the Carribean series. Johnny Depp really acted superbly in the first two and the entire cast is sure to please in this third installment of our favorite story about Captain Jack.

Mandi -Watch where the chalk-white arrows go. To the place where the sidewalk ends. S.S. May 11, 2007, 9:53am EDT
The Harry Potter novels started when my daughter Beth was a pre-teen. I still remember how excited she was to have a 'good" book to read and re-read. I also remember her reading them out loud to me, struggling with a word here and there, smiling that beautiful smile up at me as she figured out a hard word on her own.

I thought when the movies started coming out she wouldn't want to read the books anymore. I thought that a large, magical part of her childhood would disappear into a large movie screen. I was wrong.

My daughter and I have gone to the premier midnight showing of every Harry Potter movie...and it has only added to the wonderful memories of my only child's childhood.

Beth is nearly 19 now and when I told her I had pre-ordered the final Harry Potter book for her, she got that same old twinkle in her eye and a big beautiful smile was my reward. Then she said:

"Did you pre-order tickets to the midnight showing of "The Order of The Phoenix?"

So you can bet your magic wands my daughter and I will be at the next Harry Potter movie; my daughter with a twinkle in her eye and me hanging on to the last bit of her childhood magic.

Believe it or not, the sequel movie I'm looking forward to the most (after Spider-man anyway, which doesn't really count for summer) is the return of John McLane (Bruce Willis) in one of the best action franchises: Live Free or Die Hard.

O geez- its gotta be Nightwatching! Peter Greenaway is the most creative and brilliant filmmaker of our times. Sure- these other movies should be entertaining, but you just can't compare what promises to be a timeless work of art to 2 hours of pleasant distraction.

Buuuut, I really like being pleasantly distracted- so out of those previously mentioned its gotta be Harry Potter! I mean things are really getting serious in that storyline! Harry Potter vs Voldemort? Sign me up! But i quite enjoyed the earlier movies in the Oceans and Pirates franchises too. So i'll most definitely check them out!

There's going to be some great variety this summer, and a lot of the movies will be fun, but Harry Potter is going to be the one that we'll still be watching in the years to come. From the stills, set reports, and trailer, it looks like they've really captured the feel of Book 5, which is no easy task because there is so much exposition of the history of the Order and various relationships. David Yates must have done a great job, because they've asked him back for HBP, which is also very exposition-heavy with all the pensive scenes. I'm also looking forward to seeing how Kreacher will look - they did a great job with Dobby, and I was bummed that there was no Winky in GoF, so someone has to represent for the house elves (even the evil ones)!

I love love love movies so I can't wait to see what is in store for us this summer in addition to the ones I already know about! I love superhero movies so I am psyched to see Transformers and Fantastic Four. I am also interested in the story about Daniel Pearl's murder so I will definitely be checking out A Mighty Heart. I have to admit I am a fan of Angelina Jolie's acting. I love a good romantic comedy (and even some not so great ones) so I'm hoping for a couple of those too!

After Oceans second movie, I am not too much iunterested in seeing a third. The first was good, but the second sucked.
Pirates seems to be the best one coming out. Depp has done good with the team playing in this set of shows. A good cast and crews have made the first two really fun to watch!
The whole of the Rush Hour series that have been out are completely boring.
Harry Potter I can wait till it comes out on DVD, so no biggy there.
Piratres is much better seen on the screne.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is my pick, but for some unique reasons.

First, because I have seen the first two with my fiancee and it has become a joke between us. when they started running the adds for it that I had seen the first two with him and I told him that we were starting to have a history together and that was new for me, to have a history with someone. We thought that it was very funny that I could evaluate a relationship based on what movies we have seen together.

Second, because it was filmed near my home and he and I spent a whole day down at the dunes watching and hoping that Johnny Depp would come over and say hi. He did and was very gracious. I don't think that I was able to say much, but my wonderful fiancee told him that I used to keep a poster of him on my ceiling above my bed when he was on 21 Jumpstreet. (Mental note: Don't share embarassing stories anymore!) Depp laughed and said that he hoped that I didn't still have it up there! He gave us a feather from the costume that he had on and now it has a home on our dresser, minus the poster of course!

I enjoy watching his films and I think that his choices in films and roles has always been unique and interesting.

Thats a hard choice. Currently i'm really looking forward to Shrek & Pirates but as soon as it gets closer to HP i'm sure that will be my favorite. Too many movies...too little time!

I can't wait for Shrek and Pirates and also Harry Potter. But I am also VERY excited about Transformers. I grew up with them. I was a tom-boy at heart and I am also a special FX junkie so with all that said I am getting my tix for that ASAP. Now don't get me wrong I am too excited about ALL the summer movies. Spiderman has set off the races and I am ready for the Summer of Movies!!!!!!!

The only movie I will go see this summer is Harry Potter. I have been fascinated by the books and movies ever since they came out. I read the books over and over and also watch the movies when there is nothing else on. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to share the magic with her. Before my daughter, I was a teacher and I enjoyed seeing the excitement in the children's faces when they talked about Harry and his friends and the wonderful adventures they shared.

I have always loved books and many times a movie version ruins the images you have in your head from the book but I think they did an amazing job capturing the feel of the books when they made the movies. When I first saw Hagrid, Dumbledore, and Diagon Alley they were just what I had imagined. I can't wait to see the next one.

My son and I, a friend and her son, have a tradition of going to the Harry Potter movies together. The guys will be home from college and we will go to see the new Harry Potter movie...so this is the movie I MOST look forward to this summer.

My daughter and I will try to go see Harry Potter in the theater this time. We have read all the books to date and seen the movies, although the movies were only on DVD. I also want to see Pirates of the Caribbean, Rush Hour 3 and Shrek 3.

I want to see 28 days later. I love Sci Fi movies and also scarry movies.. I know that my kid have been waiting since the last Harry Potter movie to see this next one.. The Order of the Peonix... So those are actually the 2 big ones of the summer. If they play some disney ones that attract younger kids attentions, we will be seeing them too so that our 2 year old can get acquainted with the theater adventure with the family.

I would think Pirates would be the one to watch and win the most viewers as well. Though the Bourne movie would be the one I would probably enjoy more. The demographics on Pirates is just too compelling and being the third in the series.

Wow, hard choice!

I'm kind of in a three-way tie between Harry Potter, Pirates, and Shrek! Evan Almighty also looks funny, as does the Simpsons Movie. And I'm looking forward to finally getting out to see Spiderman (I'm working 7 days a week, who has time to go to the movies?).

I'm going to have to go with A Mighty Heart. It's a tough one to choose because it will be a sad movie, but it may be the most interesting of them all. I'm all for comedy, but I think Shrek will be light fare, and I'm behind and need to catch up on my Harry Potter and Pirates films before I see these sequels.

I'm only looking forward to Harry Potter. I strongly prefer the books, but I like to see the movies because of the cast. I don't like the condensed stories they do with the movies, and I'm really not looking forward to seeing how much they leave out of Order of the Phoenix (the most detailed book), but I still have to see it just so I can have a good arguement as to why the books are tremendously superior to the movies.

Out of this list, Harry Potter. But even more so, The SIMPSONS MOVIE! Why on earth isn't that at the top of your list? It should be!
