Every so often a movie comes along that will touch my soul as well as fill my senses. That movie came along in 1992, and it was called "A River Runs Through It". Some have said this movie was about Fly Fishing. In a sense it was but it had a much deeper meaning and one that you really have to see for yourself to understand. For those who are unfamiliar with this movie it takes place in Montana. The true beauty of Montana pales in comparison to the one shown in the movie and anyone who has the privilege of going to Montana can attest. The is one line, in fact the closing line that captures the movie, the mood and the deep, deep meaning of this incredible movie..
"But when I am alone in the half light of the canyon all existence seems to fade to a being with my soul, and memories. And the sounds of the Big Black Foot River, and a four count rhythm, and the hope that a fish will rise. Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. I am haunted by waters."
I get chills every time I read or hear these words. When you get the chance, immerse yourself in this movie, and you too may be haunted by waters.
