"The Departed" on DVD.
This was the only "Best Picture" Oscar Nominee that I managed to see in a theater, and after watching it win last Sunday...I decided to see if it held up at home (or possibly played BETTER since I remember having no inkling that I was watching even a serious contender for top film honors when i saw it six months ago).
Number One: It looks good on DVD, and the format will allow instant replays (or easilly accesed second viewings if you get a bit uncertain about some of the trickier plot twists....and you WONT be alone if you are confused the first time...bring the film up on "IMDB" after watching it...and access the listing gor "GOOFS"....several key plot twists are listed as errors in continuity because someone apparently failed to grasp that some of the narrative is NON LINEAR......and ((SPOILER??)) There are more rats than you might suspect on both sides....and the address where Mr. Sheen takes a fall is given wrong over the phone DELIBERATLEY).
Did seeing the film AFTER it won the Oscar have me slapping myself in the forehead and saying "How could I not have noticed it was the Best Picture of 2006?".....
Nope....
Because IT IS NOT....
But it is a very good film, full of arresting performances....
Especially from Non Nominated Matt Damon and nominated for something else Leonardo Dicaprio.
