The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime released the World Drug Report 2009 on June 24 2009.
The report shows that "global markets for cocaine, opiates, and cannabis are steady or in decline, while the production and use of synthetic drugs such as amphetamines, methamphetamine, and ecstasy is increasing."
According to the report, "cannabis remains the most widely cultivated and used drug around the world."
Currently, the world's biggest markets for cannabis are North America, Oceania, and Western Europe. The biggest demand for cocaine is in North America and some parts of Western Europe. South East Asia and Western Europe are the biggest markets for opiates.
