Ms. America
A strong, proud woman
Brought to her knees
By eight long years
Of self-serving greed.
Bowing under the weight
Of a warrant-less war
Bringing death and destruction
To our door.
Please, she pleads,
“Do not torture!
It only serves to hurt me more.”
Suffering from self-inflicted wounds,
She hangs her head in pain & shame.
The world now views us with distain
Our enemies many….
Few allies remain
With a heavy sigh she asks,
“What happened?
How did we go so wrong?”
Our moral compass
Has gone awry
The scales of justice
Tarnished and tossed aside
Pulling the cloak of the Constitution close
Though ripped and torn
Battered and worn,
Gazing sadly through eyes filled with tears
She still holds it tight,
It has served her well these many years.
We are a nation of might
But, our strength is in our compassion.
It’s time, she says, to set things right
For now there is hope on the horizon.
Bring back my pride she implores
Let me lift my head high
And as she reaches out, she cries,
“Help me! Lift me up!
Together…
We can be so much better!”

One man is blamed for the predicament we are in. One man is charged with fixing it.
The world looks at the United States of America with less disdain than do many of Her own people.
It was not one man! Had Bush not been backed by the full Republican congress for six of his eight years it might have made a tremendous difference. A full Republican congress gave him a blank check to change things as he wished.
I actually feel sorry for Bush at this point. He has been at a loss as to how to deal with the financial collapse, much as Herbert Hoover was. He saw the mistake Hoover made in doing nothing and sought to insure that his administration did not make the same error. So, he has done what he could and the response has been less than anticipated, frustrating him greatly. I believe he wants the economy improved as much as anyone and has tried his best!

One man is not going to fix it but he can certainly lead and inspire all of us to work on fixing it.
So sad that they do not have the free ride like Clinton had during his reign. As they have no idea how to actually govern, they will want to rule...
So sad....
Jennifer, thanks for the link!
Still delusional even after your 'Heroes'
have been proven to be true villians.
As for "down we'll go", you must really be blind to
not see that we are just about at rock bottom.
If having a Megolomaniac like Ken Starr shine a light up
your ass while wasting $50 million of the taxpayers money is what you call
a "free ride", you really are delusional.
Stop drinking that kool-aid.
Have a sip of reality tea.
The fumes of 8 years of unconstitutional rule, greed and immorality have
poisoned your brain.
Goos luck with that, I hope you get some help for that condition.
Excellent stuff as usual Cheri!

Individually and collectively, this is how our country was born. Individually and collectively, this is how our country will be re-born.
Hopefully t hings will begin to slowly turn around starting Tuesday and beyond and than they may just "get it" at least a little bit! Nah, no matter how much things turn around thay will never "get it"! There is too much hatred and bitterness there and not enough of a reality check.
Aunt Boni....of course you may share the poem. Thanks for the support!
John...is that a good "now you've done it" or a bad "now you've done it" ?
This man and the people he is putting into place may have the toughest job in front of them that has ever been faced by an incoming administration and that fact has so much to do with the outgoing one it isn't even funny. It will take all of us being behind what needs to be done in order to make it better once again yet people like Dan and MJ do not get that at all. Funny thing is I think in seeing GWB the past few weeks even he gets it! Yet people like Dan and MJ who followed him blindly do not! Any wonder it was easy for him to fool them into believing in him.
We have lost the respect of the whole rest of the civilized world and that falls squarely on the shoulders of that one man and his group of malcontents yet people like Dan and MJ still keep the blinders on and believe in him. For whatever their true reasons are for that belief.
The horrific attacks in Mumbai had nothing to do with the Bush administration. They are further evidence of the lunacy know as Islamic Jihad.
Our country was not attacked again after 9/11 and not only that our military killed thousands of these barbarians. Silly poetry aside,if we drop our guard these savages will be back to kill thousands more. Cheri, why do you think Obama kept Gates? Barack is not leaving Iraq for many years and Cheri, Barack is not closing Git-mo for at least 4 years in his own words. While he seems to understand the evil we face in Islamic Jihad world-wide, some among us refuse to see it.
There are better ways to quell the terrorists than living in constant fear. If we do that, they win. There are better ways then shooting first. How about building schools and teaching better ways of life? How about treating through kindness, food, health care? If we shoot and kill and torture, we are no better than the terrorists.
And Berf, you should know about anthropomorphism.
thanks,Brian
Talk about dumb mindless replies, that is one of the dumbest ones I have heard!
Better look up real history, not the liberal revisionist history.
All you critics of the democrats and Obama had better get in line and get with it, we have to be together as a nation!
I'm with you 100% on that! He certainly has my support.
Wait and see, in a couple of years the wingnuts will say that things fixed themselves, with the help of George W Bush! Obama did nothing, they will claim.
The FACE LIFT on Ms. America has begun.
And although its nice to say that Obama did more in 8 days than Bush did in 8 years to help the country...its also very sad.
I am not against big business and free interprise. But when they are foolish and go in debt and don't provide cars or merchancise that the people want. Let them fall and let others rise from the ashes. Us bail them out? No way.
People by the millions bought houses and furniture far above what they could afford in their greed. Now we, who spent our money wisely have to bail them out? No way.
But wait ... the government ... the mamma's and daddy's that think their job is to train up the citizens that acted foolishly will take the money from the good guys and give it to the bad guys. That's stealing. It is not authorized by the founding fathers. Both Republicans and Democrats need to be stormed out of office.
Because of the government taking from the responsible and giving to the irrisponsible, we will all fall ... and even while they are doing that dispicable thing ... they continue to load it with pork.
I was excited to give Obama a chance but he is no better than the other politicians disregarding integrity giving to the guilty.
On banks that are failing, I'm not sure, we need to hear from experts, should the govt (heaven forbid) take them over temporarily to stabalize and then sell them to someone else that is responsible? Many of the businesses maybe? I don't know. We need a panel of experts debating on TV every day until the people learn enough to vote for a good solution.
If men with integrity, that weren't willing to reach into tax payers money to pay the bills, would really try to do right I could forgive a lot of mistakes and retrys. But for crying out loud quit taxing big businesses and driving them out of our country. All of our good jobs are leaving to lower taxing countries.
