Remember January 2001 When Gas Was $1.87 A Gallon?

Do you remember the good ole' days when gas seemed expensive at $1.87 a gallon? Bill Clinton was President then. It's hard to believe that gas could go up so much in eight years. But then again, the dollar was actually worth a dollar then.

guess Bush made everyone mad over there so they raised the price of oil.

Ha! I remember gas at $0.47/gallon. (THAT ages me, doesn't it?) We used to have "Gas Wars" where the gas stations would fight for the right to sell us gas.
I remember it getting down to like $0.33 and $0.35 per gallon. Yes, in MY lifetime...

Larry, I think it's the speculators who buy the rights to buy future commodities. I don't pretend to understand it all, just that when speculation starts, profits for the few and mighty go up, and the middle americans and worker bees, pay the cost.

When I got my license, it was $.96 a gallon. I remember sticking $2 of gas in to get back and forth from work 30 miles away for 3 days. :) I would love gas to be that agaon. Heck, I would love to see it at $1.96, or even $2.96 a gallon.

Yes, I do remembe, back even furter than that. I remember when it was less than a dollar a gallon.

Kathy, to date me I remember Bonifide and Marathon Gas being as low as $.22 a gallon when I was going to Harris Teachers College in the early 60's. $1.00 worth of gas lasted me for a week or if I spent the whole $4.00 to fill up it seemed like forever before I went back to the gas station.

I remember when we went to war with Iraq that all the libs said we were doing for the oil. Where is that oil?

Jimmy Carter actually tried to get an energy policy passed during his presidency and had a plan to cut our dependency on oil by the year 2000. He even had solar panels at the whitehouse. That was in 1979. When Reagan came into office he had the solar panels removed. Republican presidents are not good for the environment or energy policies. Too many pay-offs from the oil industry.

The dollar hasn't been worth a dollar since they named it a dollar. When I was a kid the subway was a dime, the telephone a nickle and a slice of pizza fifteen cents. My father used to tell me how cheap thngs were when he was a kid. In 1958 I bought ciggarettes in my base exchange for eighteen cents a pack and gas for a quarter per gallon. Everything changes with time.

I remember looking out the back window of my father's car and reading the sign at the gas station: 25/9.
I also remember Dad explaining the 9 as tax when I questioned him. Such is life.
