Sometimes Consequences are a matter of life and...

A friend just forwarded a desperate plea for financial help in the face of a health crisis to me. The appeal is being made To cover the expenses of an unborn child facing an uncertain future, the need is not unique, though I cannot provide any accurate numbers. There must be thousands of similar situations playing out in hospitals throughout the nation at the moment.

This is the pertinent portion of what was sent to me. I edited out names and contact information, but I will keep it on hand if you wish to respond to the appeal.

   I am sending this email from my hospital room using my mom's

    Laptop, Where I

    will remain until my baby is born. Many of you already know

    what has been

    happing with my sweet unborn baby....For those of you who don?t

    I'll tell you

    the main issues Baby Avah has NO Amniotic Fluid, both of her

    Kidney's are

    enlarged by 20% each and not functioning at all, and there

    maybe issue with her

    lung development due to no fluid. She has a strong heart beat

    so we believe she

    has a strong will to live!! Some every near and dear friends

    have started a web

    site for donations to help cover the medical expenses due to

    the fact that as of

    right now she will be put on Dialysis and will need a Kidney

    Transplant. There

    are a few other options that the doctors have mentioned but

    they are not cover

    by insurance and start at $2000.00.

    VERY MUCH

    APPRECIATED.

This organization has been consistent in opposition to any form of Government provided universal health care on political grounds.
I am not suggesting that her personal choices led to the predicament she is in, but universal health care would have greatly reduced the financial problems she and her family now face.

Again, if you wish to provide a donation to defray the medical costs in this single case, contact me. I will provide the channels for getting aid to this woman in her time of need.

I'm sorry to hear this and hope the baby will be okay. Thank you for sharing, unfortunately right now, I cannot help out with any financial donations, my husband has cancer and we are on a tight budget ourselves.

Karl, Thank you. Like Rebekka, most of us here have no money to give, but we have hopes to pass along. Universal health care is needed by our country. I know that I have no insurance, and therefore can not see a doctor for my health problems. I have to ignore them and continue on as best I can.

Thank you so much Karl. I appreciate your thoughts. Unfortunately the health care system is broke and needs to be desperately fixed. I can't believe the prices for medicines, office visits and other things. I'm glad we are covered by insurance, but we still have to pay co-payments and as for the dentist, forget it, the co-pays are outrageous. I have nothing against others, but if we can help give medical aid to people overseas, why can't they help out our fellow Americans. There are too many people in this country that don't have health insurance and that is terrible. Oh well it's late and I need to get some shut eye. We are the only industrialized nation besides S. Africa that does not have Universal Healthcare. I've been working on this issue since 1989 when I was offered a job in Australia and found out what was available there. I was floored and appalled at our profit driven mess here in the US.

Our medical system for profit just puts most our money with insurance company middle men.

As I said This young woman and her desperately ill child are just one example of THOUSANDS. Two friends of mine, a journeyman electrician, and a retail store clerk share a home owned by another friend of mine. The electrician has just completed treatment for colon cancer. In the process of being treated a serious failure of his left knee was discovered. His cancer treatments are done, and he could go back to work if he could walk. So the disability coverage ended. The store clerk goes to and from work on a bicycle, that is until he was hit from behind by a car. So far the auto insurance company has not paid a single bill, or provided any kind of replacement for his lost income. So far, because he cannot recall anything about the accident. He was only in the coma 5 days, His right arm is still in a sling, and while the wounds to his face have healed well, he still has a funny looking ear.
But remember, anyone can take care of these problems. All you have to do is give a portion of your earnings to an insurance company, and they will pay when you need the help. Or, we could do the same with the government, AND be in charge of both the costs and the benefits. That's how DEMOCRACY makes decisions.

you know what I find..criminal in all of this....that dispite the constant and continuous cry for this...those we elect into office..over and over again....do nothing....can we get an attitude about this??????? We should be taking their heads into our hands and noding it yes for them...we should be raising their arms for them in a vote AYE....
We pay their salaries and HEALTH INSURANCE....with our sweat and muscle...
how dare they say no...been saying no for years....
and still we go into voting booths every year and vote them in.....
