I see myself as an Arab national who dreams of a United Arab Nation that will one day hold the liberties and values of this great nation. Americans in my point of view are not idiots; it's just that some are more informed than others. The values of this nation are the envy of the world and the prosperity of its people is proof to that. I sought my dream here rather than my home country because of what this nation offers.
Who am I to criticize this nation, as a guest I refrain from criticizing its policies and leave that to its people. A guest in someone's house should be grateful for the fortune provided by the hospitality of the household. To criticize or influence there behavior are qualities of an invader not a guest.
As an Arab I can voice my opinion on the welfare of my own home, a home with no inhabitants, walls, windows or floors. We are a divided nation whose values were lost in the blood of our own struggle. More Arabs are killed, humiliated, tortured and deprived of dreams by their own people and governments than the aggression of other nations.
I do not consider the United States the cause of our misery; I blame our internal fighting and division for that. If we were prosperous then our own homes would not be deserted and our own beds would have harbored our dreams not the beds offered by your hospitality.
I grew up in the Middle East and let me share with you this fact, every dictator and leader of our divided nation blamed the west for our misery, it's the escape goat theory. The government of the United States main objective is to look after the survival of its people and that is noble, I just hope our governments did the same. It might be true that in the process to secure the future and prosperity of this nation others suffered, this not out of the ordinary, one has to fall for the other to rise.
In regards to Hitler; I laugh when people compare Bush to him, trust me my dear hosts, if Bush and this nation was in anyway like Hitler it would have no problem of wiping all opposing nations from the face of the earth, Muslims and Arabs would have been sent to concentration camps and killed. This nation has its faults, but when it stands on the balance its more just than all other super powers. Things can be better & there is always room for improvement, I entrust that Americans can handle that on their own, as they dealt with slavery, civil liberties etc.. This nation has only progressed to save and enhance human dignity.
For all those non-Americans my message cannot be more clear, don't stand on the land of the free and blame it for the enslavement of your people. Go to your own Pharos and seek the freedom of your people.
Arabs are not victims of U.S. aggression; they are an unworthy opponent. Remember that it was the Arabs that picked and advocated the fight due to their internal frustration a product of their own failure to build a nation.
The real victims are the 3000+ soles who died on 9/11and the families that had to deal with the loss. They were striped from the dream and future that millions of this nation sacrificed their lives to provide for them. How many sacrificed their lives for this country to be were it is today, lets take a quick preview, the war for independence, its own civil war, WWI, WWII, etc.. Even those who are opposed to Vietnam remember that this war was not about one nation, it was a war of ideology, some battles were won and others were lost, but imagine if the U.S. stood idle to the spread of communism, we would be all living the reality of the animal farm.
Arabs were never united, they fought among themselves and their values set the stage for their demise. Now that they are dead, they blame the vouchers for feeding on their bodies.
Iraq, lets be frank, during Saddam its people were oppressed, it was not like the country was prosperous. The U.S. saw an opportunity to free this country from oppression and in return gain the allegiance of this oil rich country, yes nothing is for free. What did the Iraqis think that the U.S. Will do it for free and sacrifice the life of its soldiers for a Muslim fundamental nation run by clerics. No matter what the argument is, Iraqis lobbied the U.S. for years to help them get rid of the oppression of Saddam. After September 11, the U.S. found the benefit to form an alliance with the opposition. Its like any agreement between two parties, I scratch your back and you scratch mine.
To be frank the result and consequence of the invasion is not a miscalculation on the part of the U.S., it's a true reflection on the nature of the region. The U.S. delivered on its promise, freedom form Saddam's oppression, no more sanctions, an open field for the people to build their own nation democratically and even went all the way to capture and kill any figure that posed a doubt for the return of the old oppression.
Lets take a pause and remember the fall of Baghdad and how the people destroyed the statue of Saddam and rejoiced his fall. Now that we remember the vision of this moment, lets envision the logical sequence of events from a nation suppressed for 25+ years, been under sanctions and lost 1 million + citizens for wars and internal struggle. I envisioned parades, unity, forgiveness what any nation that gained its freedom would have done. The reality was different; this was not because of the invasion; it's due to the nature of their culture. Every Arab wants to be the leader and the martyr that will be envied by all. This is what creates their division and their demise and they have no one to blame but themselves.
Now for all Americans I say, don't idealize the situation too much, seek your right to get your end of the deal. You invested too much and many American lives died for this deal, at the end of the day it was a sincere attempt to do good for a nation and attain the fruit of its investment. For a bunch of power hungry militias to gain from this will deprive both the Americans and the Iraqis of their right and sacrifice.

My guess is, you'll get very few readers, because you've only published to one group, and because you haven't used enough tags. You probably WILL get some unfair ratings, though, because this site is littered with those who do not want to hear the truth, as it doesn't suit their political agendas. I hope, however, that I am WRONG!
Congradulations on a wonderful article! You UNDERSTAND, and you have the courage to stand up and say what you KNOW and what you believe. This SHOULD be an object lesson (though I'm sure it won't be) to those here who judge without objectivity, to those who parrot what they hear without bothering to try to learn anything about what you've explained so eloquently. Your insights are dead on, and I appreciate them very much.
Whatever rating your article ends up with, whatever negative comments you may receive, I consider it an honor to start you off with a "10"!! I'll look forward to reading more from you.
Warm regards,
Steve Hughes
btw, i think a good guest can make 'suggestions' without feeling they are being ungrateful.. a good host should be open to such criticism and willing to consider views that are presented with peaceful intentions.
Otherwise, a well-written point of view, without the propaganda. 8 from me.
It does give one something to ponder..even if they don't agree and I hope it opens some eyes.
Thanks again.
We know we care to live no where but here, but i appologize that you don't feel like in the 'public good' you don't feel you can critique, that is what freedom of speech is all about, welcome home.
Steve, you are what I see as a true American. Honest and to the point. From your profile I see your diversity, contribution and willingness to sacrifice for your nation. (I bow and lift my hat to you).
Carolyn, I am flattered by your remarks, if you have a chance read my article "The Empire" I think you will like it, I classify you as the sole of morality in it.
Charles, I did not ignore the facts of your government, I referred to it in the analogy of the voucher and the dead body. I just do not see why I should blame your government for feeding on our dead nation; many nations did the same, it's just natural.
Sascha, Thank you and yes it is an outside view. Difference is the view of a new horizon and I welcome it.
Jackie, you summarized my intensions, ThanX.
David, I am the one who took the lesson from America, and my article is a product of its teachings. Thank You.
John, your appreciation and value of it's context is enough for it to be shared among all.
Lise, I just practiced my freedom of speech in your hospitality.
Congratulations on a very articulate article.
Those who fail to learn from history are doom to repeat it. This applies to their own history and history of other countries.
I think many in my country are failing to learn and appreciate the History lesson you provided.
