The ice on Matoon Pond is now 8 to 10 inches deep and the ice fishermen are out. In the photo below you can see the dock and two hearty souls out on the frozen pond.

Most use a chainsaw to cut a hole in the ice .
Here's a cropped photo showing a closer view of the ice that has be removed.

After you make your hole you drop a line onto the water and wait for a bite.

Every morning you have to reopen your fishing hole. Below is an earlier photo of the dock at Matoon just to give you an idea of how far out on the pond these two are fishing.

Crossing a busy street is risky, I have camped in the wilderness alone and wasn't afraid. I would be mopre worried about my own species than any other. LOL Life is a chance ya never know so why not do what you enjoy.
