What will you do?
January 15th is a celebration for a wonderful man, Martin Luther King Jr. However, he was a man of the times partially because the times were horrific. There were inequalities and inadequacies galore.
Here are just 10 of a variety of things that need more work and more people power put forward for their causes:
1) Equal rights. I am referring to equal rights for women, racial/religious/cultural minorities, the impoverished, gays, and many others.
2) Health Care. There are vast disparities in the coverage that people can obtain that are truly sickening.
3) Tolerance. We are all unique. If there is a group of people who you know nothing about, are afraid of, and possibly dislike, try to meet a member of them and see why you feel the way that you do. We all inhabit this earth. Hate never betters anyone's life.
4) Children. I am pro-choice and my gf is pro-life, and yet those of us on both sides do not address the miserable reality that there are roughly 1 million children in foster care in the US, many of whom do not have a loving upbringing. We are not able to provide the loving homes to all children who come into this world.
5) Comprehensive Sex Education. Statistically, comprehensive sex ed yields LOWER teen pregnancy rates than abstinence only programs. Giving ADEQUATE, ACCURATE information about ourselves and our bodies allows our youth to make smarter decisions about their lives.
6) Education. Many schools are underfunded and underperforming. We spend more on fighting wars than we do on educating the youth who will eventually make the decisions that affect our lives. Performing arts programs (and others) are rapidly declining and disappearing.
7) Environment. We live on this Earth and that will not change during our lifetimes. What will change (and already is) during our lives is the quality of our air, land, and water. Global warming is having a drastic impact on our lives. Corporations try to keep the government and our representatives from implementing necessary legislation. Global warming=>Increased Storms/Weather Phenomenon=>Destruction of property/loss of life=>Ultimately costs taxpayers a lot of money. You make the call. Would you rather make a few changes now or pay for it with your money, property, and lives later?
8) War. The government reports have shown what the concerned American people have known all along, the war in Iraq has fueled an increase in terrorism that did not exist previously. We cannot win in Iraq. More troops=more of our dead loved ones and more terrorists created. Instead of tackling the real problems, we now have two greater threats than Iraq, a country that has detonated a NUCLEAR WEAPON (North Korea), and a country that is developing nuclear weapon technology (Iran). That's where our troops are needed.
BTW, the divisions between sunni and shi'ite Muslims have existed since 632 AD, American troops are not going to change that.
9) The Sudan. If you haven't heard about what's going on there, look it up immediately.
10) Immigration. You may not have thought about it, but the real problem exists with American corporations, not migrants. Corporations and capitalism is set up to get the cheapest labor possible. This real problem is is that corporations are not being forced to provide adequate worker's wages and benefits to support a family let alone oneself. They will not provide such things unless compelled to do so by outside forces (public image, political pressure caused by voters putting pressure on our representatives). Stand together in solidarity with your fellow men and women regardless of heritage to demand what you deserve.
Make a difference.
Fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

I am commenting on all of your articles and photos as you have asked us to do in the mass email sent out! Not all my comments will be personalized as there are 20 pages of articles to read through and even more than that on photos and I would rather spend the time reading and looking and enjoying then writing! Btw I saw you were listed as having 20 pages of articles but it will only let me see 19 of them so I will Comment on everything it lets me see!
