Pre-Space Flight/Twilight Zone
I just watched the 1st Twilight Zone episode "Where is everybody" which alluded to what space travel to the moon would be like. It questioned how man would deal with the monotony and solitude that would ensue. It is interesting to see the questions and fears that were raised by a society who had not yet ventured to the moon. Were they correct? Were they baseless? We live in a time in which the idea of living on the moon or Mars (not just visiting) seems far-fetched and for any of us to personally achieve, and yet, we live in a time in which we as a society have the technology and the resources to make that a reality (we simply need the poilitical resolve to do so). In fact, it will become a reality in the not-too-distant future. We will most likely see the day in which a permanent establishment will exist on the moon and on Mars. Will our kids get the chance to travel there? Will our grandkids? It is the next step for us as a species. I only hope that we can help to quell our own fears and use them to guide us into the future, into the next horizon.
