the other night we went to the meijer gardens and sculpture park to go to a jazz concert. the music turned out to NOT be jazz, so we wandered around the wetlands walk, and took some photos (surprise!). yes, you've seen many of my photos from meijer gardens here on gather. we love this place! still, here are some of the evening's highlights...
the davinci horse, seen from a few hills away. it is extremely large - a human only comes up to its hooves.

mitoraj's light of the moon, which lillie really loved...

lillie played with boats in the water section of the children's park - there are 5 connected ponds, shaped like the great lakes. here, she's playing in lake michigan.

on the wetlands walk, we saw this heron (egret?), some duckweed, a really cool stump, and 5 ducklings, all in a row.

nearing the end, we spotted some red grass glowing in the evening sun. then we headed home - not musically satisfied, but visually satisfied from our walk.

back at home at dusk, we swam (a day without swimming several times is not a good thing in lillie's world!) and caught this beautiful lake still life out front. sometimes, the best treasures are right in front of you.

Meijer is a neat place. We went there with my sister and her husband (who has since died of Pancreatic C) a few years ago. I can't look at the pictures I took there without thinking of him.
thank you, thank you!
ask the good folks at University of Michigan to identify it. if it is crake-you'll have made their day

isn't life fun?? thank you!
Thanks for sharing another joy-filled day in your life!
I always enjoy your pictures.
What music would actually drive you away for not being jazz?
dorine - it was folk music. other music that would drive me away: rock, metal, country.
thanks!!
As usual, Jessie, your photo essay is beautiful. The photos are stunning. Thanks so much for sharing. I can always find such tranquility here.
What a nice idea to take Gather folks on a "virtual walk" in such a beautiful park. You and your family are lucky to have this nearby. A New Englander, I had never heard of Meijer Gardens on Lake Michigan.
I am "smitten" by the Mitoraj sculpture, "light of the moon." And, of course, the images of wildlife, and your daughter, are lovely. Thank you. :) Patricia / "Jin Wen"
Wow I loved the sculpture photos.
A change of pace is always refreshing and renewing.
I am going now to see if the turtle is on the log in the river I live beside.
