I have been in the hospital more times than I care to count. A few years ago I was in the University hospital. That means that you have a Dr who is not a full licensed Dr yet. They evaluate you each day and are in charge of your care but if problems arise, they have to contact the MD that is in charge of them.
Well this particular time, I had a Dr that was rude. He was not helping me and I was in as much pain as I was in at home. I buzzed the nurse and ask her what I had to do to sign myself out. She said that I had to sign some papers. She called the Dr and told me that she could not believe that this Dr was allowed to treat patients the way he was.
Well that is the fastest I ever had a Dr come to see me. In a matter of minutes he was there. Mad as all get out but he was the none the less.
Now you must know that I am easy going. I keep my mouth shut and take a lot before I get mad. I had reached the boiling point for me. The Dr said "why do you want to go home?" I told him that I could lay in my bed at home and hurt like this and not have to pay $1,000 a day.
He said "what do you want for pain?" LOL I told him that I wanted something that would take the pain away. He said "I will order whatever you want." LOL From that point on- every 4 hours the nurse came in with an injection. I finally told her that I did not need it. She said "you can refuse to take it anytime you want but the Dr ordered it every 4 hours"
Now my question is- How much of a role do you think the person has in their hospital stay?
I think that the patient should have a major role in his hospital stay.

People want kindess and consideration whuile in the hospital I mean for goodness sakes your life is basically in their hands ya know.. who wants their life in a mean uncaring persons hands..
Makes me feel better when I have nice nurses and all.. I feel safe :)
Yes a care giver should be compassionet but you have to keep some kind of distance because you'd go crazy. There is however no excuse for being rude !!!!
I have had more trouble with nurses than I have with MDa
Yes I have private insurance but that really should now matter when it comes to the care and respect the patient receives.
I do think we should have a say in our care...
Good for you. LOL
