This year the Nobel Prize for physics goes to the two pioneers of Nanotechnology. The winners are France's Albert Fert and Germany's Peter Gruenberg. In 1988, they independently discovered a physical effect that lead to the development of smaller and smaller hard disks, which in turn made possible the creation of iPod, MP3 and smaller phones.
What they discovered is the phenomenon called giant magnetoresistance or GMR. Looking at the planets in 1988 revealed a very prominent configuration that symbolically mirrors magnetoresistance. Bill Meridian placed the rulership of nanotechnology to the Uranian planet (hypotethical) Admetos.
Throughout 1988 Admetos was retrograde and was in opposition to Pluto. The opposition to Pluto alone in basic astrological symbolism would be translated into magnet and resistance. Pluto is the modern planet (in astrological terms) that is correlated with Scorpio, whose description among other things is magnetic. The word "opposition" can also mean resistance.
Pluto is the smallest among the planets, that is why recently the scientific community demoted it into a dwarf planet. GMR was applied to create smaller and smaller electronic gadgets like laptops, video and music players. As Pluto is also connected with life and death, we may soon see GMR’s application in the field of medicine.
Incidentally, when the Nobel prize for physics was announced retrograde Mercury is conjunct Admetos's location in 1988.
