My middle son is going through his vampire phase so he's going to be a vampire. My oldest son's costume was pieced together from the thrift store and dollar store. I found a really neat skeleton costume. I found a mask, two skeleton decorations from the dollar store and a skeleton bracelet to hang off a belt he already has. It'll be attached to his waist. He has a skull staff that my Mom got him a month ago so he's going to be a skeleton man.
My youngest is going as batman. He won't keep anything on his head so he's just wearing the bottom piece.
I am definitely wearing a costume! :) My outfit is kind of styled after a Victorian lady of long ago. My Mom made the dress by hand, with a cape. I have a choker that my Mom put together, plus I'll be wearing a slip that poofs out. Honestly, I can't wait to dress up. I love dressing up with the kids. Halloween is MY holiday! :)
They love Graveyard Pudding, Graveyard Cupcakes, Jack o lantern rice krispies, various candy. They're not hard to please ;)
We read a Halloween book every night during the month of October. I'm a Halloween addict so I have my own Halloween kids book collection that the kids are allowed to go through during October.
I try to have a Halloween party every year but it doesn't always happen so I have a night where it is just us with Halloween goodies that I make, some with the kids help and we watch a kids Halloween movie like Halloweentown (though the last one I found disappointing with the change of Marnies), Scary Godmother, or Hocus Pocus.
Moderation is key. Plus make sure you have healthy options available with all the sweets.
Halloween cookies or Tombstone Cupcakes. ;) Yes, they LOVE Chocolate milk. They are addicts! I buy the Nesquik chocolate milk mix that has no sugar added.
We just sorted out the costumes for school tomorrow
We usually trick or treat at the local college dorm rooms.. they give out tons of candy and have been known to give out stashes of food when the candy runs out. It is actually quite fun to see what food you got.. not what candy you got...
Then while the kids are sleeping, I seperate it all and then divide it into little packages and then freeze it. The kids can earn their packages by doing their homework and other little things. I also make sure there is enough for everyone to have the same amount of candy bags with teir names on it. The really like the idea of it taking a month to eat the candy and the not getting a lot all at one time is what I really enjoy.
This year, my kids will be: Chris, the eldest is Darth vader, and the Matthew, the youngest is going to be Yoda.
Seriously, Matthew chose Yoda all on his own. We didn't influence him. Odd huh?
I love that it's a Friday this year, I can let them stay up later, and do stuff.
Oldest son -- zombie
2nd oldest -- Indiana Jones
Oldest daughter -- Cowgirl
Youngest son -- a spider . . . a cobweb-printed mesh cape with matching gloves, and a fuzzy decorative black webs to carry in each hand, spider rings on his fingers, over a black sweatsuit. We'll of course drape a few fake cobwebs all over him too!
Baby -- a cute wittle pumpkin'
Me and hubby go every year as a bridge and groom with our Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears on. It always creates a stir.
I also take the kids to the library Halloween craft events
The chocolate always goes first. They like lollipops, and gum. We usually don't have gum in the house because it manages to get stuck in the weirdest places! Reese's top the list. Gummy candies, like Lifesavers. Airheads.
We live near a community of retirees, so there are usually several events to visit. The local supermarket chain does some in store trick or treating so we hit 2 or 3 of those locations early, before other things get started. One local church does a Trunk or Treat. The older folks decorate their golf carts and dress up, and dress up their little dogs, and the kids go up and down the rows in the parking lot. It's great! One other local church this year is doing a party that we know about, and we may find out about others as we go around town. Usually the nursing home does trick or treat so the residents can enjoy the kids coming, but this year they didn't do it. Bummer! We always enjoyed that.
Um, throw out last year's congealed leftover candy??
She likes coffee and milk together.
My kids drink a lot of milk at school but since my oldest two have some degree of lactose intolerance, we don't go overboard with milk at home. I also have trouble digesting it. They do like milk and chocolate milk, but more often will get white milk. I wouldn't say there are any particular Halloween themed treats they go for with milk though.
Around Thanksgiving, I round the left over candy up, and send it into Nick's office. They'll eat anything. By then, the candy all starts to taste funky, from being in close quarters with other similar candies.
One time, I must have been 12? Anyway, we went up to this house, and me and my friend were talking about the house- nothing bad, but nothing we'd have said to their faces (just that it was run down, I think). Anyway, we knocked, no one answered, we turned, saw a prop sitting there with a bowl of candy, and reached in to take one.
The prop was a person in costume, and scared us witless!
first, thanks for calling me a kid. makes me feel kinda good as i just got older recently.
Are you wearing a costume?
well, not at the moment, but i'm sure i'll wear one tomorrow at some point.
What are your kids favorite Halloween treats?
i don't have kids, but i love Mike and Ikes and anything gummy candy like.
chocolate is good too.
What traditions do you always follow?
combo birthday/halloween costume party, i always trick or treat, or if i can't leave the house, make the kids do tricks for their treats. the beanie babies were a huge hit that one year.
How do you keep Halloween healthy (as much as possible)?
give the kids a choice between candy and running to the next house, or spending a moment to perform a trick (usually something like sing I'm A Little Tea Pot) for something good like a stuffed animal or toy. (I'm A Little Tea Pot is great to make the older kids do also. much more comical)
What Halloween treats do your kids love with milk?
again, no kids, but i only drink milk with cookies and only when newly cracked open and ice cold.
Do they like chocolate milk?
anything with chocolate is always appreciated.
