It may sound square, but my favorite for the kids has always been "Sesame Street."
That show taught my kids to count, to have courage, their abc's, so many things.....

This sounds like a lot of fun especially because I've become so close with lots of other people on Gather. It's always fun to sit back, relax & chat a little.

We have quite a few television shows that fit my entire family but a couple of them are Little People Big World, Wife Swap, Intervention, American Idol, Hell's Kitchen & The Office. My kids love to watch all these shows and some of them are even used as teaching tools here at home.

We end up watching a lot of Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go all together and singing along with the songs. Silly I know but the kids love it when we all count long with Dora or Diego and we answer the questions that are asked. Sometimes I'm a little embarrassed that I sing along with Dora and Diego but hey, the kids love it so it's all good! LOL Now if I can just get here during the live chat, I'll do my best to see everyone then.

I would love to chat live, but 9 pm is shared reading and bed time at our house. We love Scooby-Doo and my son likes the PBS show Fetch which sort of a reality/learning show for kids 8-14. Fetch is entertaining and educational at the same time

I only have one child, and he's 2.5. We watch a lot of Wiggles. We also watch Dora, Diego, the Backyardigans, Winnie the Pooh, etc. We like most of the Nick Jr and Playhouse Disney things, along with about half of the PBS kids stuff. As far as movies go, Elliott loves Cars, Happy Feet, Ice Age, and Shrek. My husband really likes the Ice Age and Shrek movies as well, so they are watched A LOT at our house.

My kids are 7 1/2 and 4 1/2 and right now they really enjoy Popeye cartoons. They love it so much - that's what they want to be for Halloween this year! They even love the Popeye movie with Robin Williams as Popeye!

For Halloween I'm going to have a Popeye and an Olive running around the house!

Disney movies are another favorite in our house. I enjoy watching them as much as the kids do.

Our favorites are:

Little Mermaid
Herbie
CARS
Brother Bear
Beauty and the Beast

Just to name a few! There are SO many that are great for the entire family!

And of course my kids enjoy cartoons on TV as well, although there are several we don't allow them to watch! So many cartoons are violent and not appropriate for the kids their age!

Hmm, if we're not talking about shows geared specifically toward children, I guess the only thing that we watch that qualifies is Dancing with the Stars. :) Though my DD calls it 'the dancing show'.

I tend to watch Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace, forensic files and other shows like that. When Crossing Jordan was playing I was an avid fan. Now I am hooked on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

My favorite animated movie is The Road to El Dorado - the kids liked it too when they were younger. It's a good buddy tale, very adventurous- kinda based on the old Road pictures with Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. The soundtrack is by Elton John.

Other entertainments my kids liked when they were very little included Sesame Street (I loved watching it too), Gullah Gullah Island (is that still on? Probably not, but it was cute), Barney (I didn't like that one!) , Mr. Rodgers (RIP, Mr. Rodgers), and Blue's Clues (is that still on? that was cute, if a bit annoying after a while).

Ahh- kids movies... I love Disney movies. I have a total soft spot for them. My favorites are Little Mermaid and Hercules, both give me a total deja vu feeling of when I first saw them.

Do you let your children watch I-Carly and Drake & Josh? My kids think they need to watch those shows but I think those are both geared towards the older kids - pre-teen, etc. My kids are only 7 and 4!
Grown up shows- Bones, House, NCIS, CSI:NY, Criminal Minds.. hmm... there are likely others.
One of our favorites to watch with our 13 year old daughter is Monk. It is a good, clean family show that gets all of us interested in it.

hi, everyone!


we recently borrowed "the best of the electric company" from the library. this was a hit show when i was growing up but it seemed so corny to me now. my children loved it! theyve been walking around the house yelling "hey, you guys!" every since then.

I still like animated movies too! Shrek is a good series of movies (1, 2, and 3). I like some Disney ones too, but I tend to prefer things by Dreamworks.

Laura my kids liked Sesame Street too. My youngest does now along with Thomas the tank engine.
Bridget- the kids all watch those shows here, but with an older pre-teen in the house, it was inevitable. I don't think they're bad shows for kids, though, of any age.
I actually really like iCarly.

I don't watch much tv though... I seem to find I don't have alot of time, and I can't effectively do homework with the television playing. I have learned that much since I have been back to school... HAHA!

Scooby Doo! That's one of our favorites around here. =) They even have a new series going on. We also have some of the Scooby Doo movies on dvd.
Now, for reality shows- I like American Idol, and America's Next Top Model. Total soft spot for them.

I used to watch House all the time. But, now I just watch soaps, Smallville, Deal or no Deal, America's got talent, The Simpsons, some football, American Dad, Family Guy, and some others.

I love Disney movies.. Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and Hercules are my favs LOL I really love PIxar movies too.. The Incredibles rocks.. and Cars, and Ratatouille ..love them all
We also like to watch the George Lopez show, but there are some episodes that we have to turn off.

I remember that one to Laura. I have tow teenagers and a 15 month old so I remember all the older ones and now I get all the new ones.

My teenagers loved Barney when they were little.
So, here's my confession of the night- for lunch, we ate late at McDonalds (like 4pm late), so for dinner, I totally went healthy with a trip to Dairy Queen.

Laura, I don't let my child watch Shrek, the language used in those movies is crude and I don't like the sexual conotation used in the movie at all! I guess I feel that my child might pick up on it, children are smarter than we think! :) But, my daughter LOVES Disney movies and I don't mind them one bit

Oh, something else my kids used to love (and I liked watching with them) was the Wishbone series on PBS, about a talking dog and his adventures in literature. That was a nice one.

In general, my kids don't watch anything that's not on PBS Kids. I'm not comfortable with any 'real' shows (meaning things other than cartoons) yet... though of course we watch Reading Rainbow and and Mr. Rogers.

Cartoons have gotten a lot more bold over the years, with a lot more adult humor. And, while it may be entertaining to us adults, it isn't neccessarily the best thing for the kids, either.

I dont really like a lot of reality type stuff. Except for American Idol.. but since there's not much on these days, I've been watching Wife Swap and Supernanny too.. and I watch stuff on HGTV, like House Hunters and stuff like that. Other than that, it's CSI or Law&Order, Smallville, Reaper, How I met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men ..stuff like that
