I had the great priviledge to travel to Las Vegas to meet my husband for the weekend. He was there on travel for work, and we only had to pay for my plane ticket and extra expenses. We had a great weekend reconnecting without the direct responsibility for care for our two children. It was a wonderful time to just focus on our relationship in all aspects.
The bonus of the weekend came when I returned home to the 2 kids. My mom stayed with them at my house for the long weekend. The weather turned extremely cold, with windchills dropping the temp to below zero degrees. She was able to keep them entertained when daycare closed due to no power by taking them to local restraunts with play areas for treats. They would return home for dinner. I asked her one favor-- please wash the kids' sheets.
Here's the true reprieve -- not only did she was the sheets, but she washed my sheets, washed all clothes in the house, folded and put them away, swept and mopped the kitchen, ran the dish washer, cooked dinners and breakfasts, and kept the kids happy until I returned. I couldn't believe my eyes to walk into the house with clean floors, clean kids, fresh made beds, and everyone happy. Ah, the pleasures of being grandma. When she left, the kids cried. They did not want to see her go.
Now, it's back to the grindstone of work and trying to do it all and do it all well. I'm refreshed, refocused on my relationship with my husband, and ready to be a Mom, employee, wife, sister, and jack-of-all-trades again. Ahh, the peace in refocusing a relationship, and the memories. What happened in Vegas, stays in Vegas!
