I have always loved listening to music. Broadway tunes, rock and roll, jazz standards, punk, 80's - you name it, I like at least some of it. But, like many people, I would get tired of listening to the same 20 or 30 "top hits" when listening to the radio.
That's why I have been so pleased to find a new resource for great new music - The Podsafe Music Network).
As a podcaster (http://www.manicmommies.com), I was looking for music that I could use on my show without getting sued. Let me revise that statement.... I was looking for GOOD music I could use without getting sued. That's when I found the Network.
Artists on the Podsafe Music Network allow podcasters like myself to play their music on our shows at no charge - we get the music, they get the exposure.
But I found something else happening as a cruised through the site - I found music that I not only wanted to play on the show, but that I loved! I was trolling through artist sites listening to all their music, and trying to glean information about their lives. I wanted to collect all the songs from my favorite artists, and was pushing these songs and albums on my friends. It was like a drug!
The crazy thing is, these are people I would never have heard on the radio. What's crazy about that? It's like they say about cable tv - hundredds of channels and still nothing on!
That's not to say I've given up on "traditional media" like some of my fellow podcasters. I still need my news, and every now and I then I need a dose of "Hit me baby one more time..." But I can tell you this. Broadcast radio is becoming a much smaller part of my personal media mix.
For Mother's Day I put together a special edition of the Manic Mommies Podcast featuring songs from my favorite new artists. If you enjoy music I hope you will take a moment to check it out:
