Hi all.
Exciting news. The 1st book has been such a success the publisher has asked me to do a sequel. So I'm returning to ask y'all for more recommendations.
Gather members were a big help in finding stories for A Cook's Journey, so I'm hoping that folks will once again chime in with names and places, food and farms all over the Midwest. I seek people who "wall the walk" of Slow Food ideals, whether they are actual members of the movement or not.
From Ohio to Oklahoma to North Dakota and all points in between, the new book will be packed with images and stories stories of the people who feed us well. Chefs, farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers winemakers, brewers, bakers, etc. etc., anyone and everyone who produces and/or promotes Good, Clean, Fair food. Not necessarily fancy food, not necessarily simple food. Simply REAL food.
Drop a suggestion here, or join my Facebook group for the purpose here. I can't wait to hear from you all!
Peace,
kmf

You may want to check out "Lynd's Fruit Farm" in Pataskala, Ohio. It is an orchard which grows various apple varieties, and various fruits/veggies, and they have a fabulous gourmet/wine shop. They have tastings most weekends in the summer and a lot of activities to try.
I have relatives in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin so will try to find out who the good food people are there! Salud
I wish I could help, but except for the products of the Robert Rotchchild Farms in Urbana, Ohio - which I used to sell years ago in my kitchen shop in Miami Lakes, FL- I don't know too much about farms and such in the heartland of our country....
Rothchild Farms still exists, and I use their products regularly. their Barbeque sauce is to die for, and I have a few jars of jam in the fridge now. The blueberry fruit spread is fabulous, as well as the hot pepper peach jam(which I put on pork chops, with a wee bit of OJ).
Funny you should mention - I did not include KY in the 1st book, but have since fallen in love with Louisville and am adding it for the second one (simply cuz I'm the author and can do what I want)
