Yep. Global average temps are expected to increase another 1-2 degrees over this century even if we take action now. If we don't, and continue to conduct our business as usual, those estimates rise to 5-7 degrees, at which point James Hansen at NASA says that we will have a very different planet. In other words, we are now in damage control - and future generations will live with the consequences of our decisions for centuries to come (that is, if they live at all).
How do you determine it is irrelevant if you don't know the facts? - which you don't. And even if you did know the right figures, how do you determine it is irrelevant? This may help:
NASA scientist James Hansen...said governments must adopt an alternative scenario to keep carbon dioxide emission growth in check and limit the increase in global temperatures to 1 degree Celsius (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit).
If the world continues with a "business as usual" scenario, Hansen said temperatures will rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius (3.6 to 7.2 degrees F) and "we will be producing a different planet."

The average temp has risen over 1 degree Celsius in the last ten years.
