My new icon was flagged as adult content. Huh? Don't people go to museums anymore? It's the Venus de Milo in snow, people. That's all. How on earth is this offensive? Thoughts? I would love the person who flagged this come forward and explain their actions.
I've been an active member of Gather for a year and half. I've posted hundreds of my photos and this is the first time I've been flagged. This kind of fascist censorship is enough to make me consider leaving Gather.
However,I'm more sad than mad at the ignorance demonstrated. I was an art history major in college. I love classical art forms like the ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. Yes, they are naked. So what? My snow sculpture is far more demure by comparison. Do you agree?

As to the flagger - Gather will not do anything about it - You'll just have to suck it up and accept that there are plenty of ignorant people in the world.
I guess the puritans on here were very offended.
We can censor nude art but god forbid you call someone out on posting copy righted material *pulls out hair*
If this happened to some people I know, I'd be less surprised. You don't do any of the things that usually cause GatherPolitical™ problems.
Okay, I have to go do some real writing now. I am sorry seriously. That's an awesome icon. I love the icon as it says so much about a person. I look at that and think hey, who'd a thunk it. You can make statues out of snow. How can anything to do with snow ever be sexual or inappropriate anyway? It's snow! Okay, don't answer that. I don't want to know. lol
I've got a picture of one of my cats peeing in the snow. What do ya think? Should I go for it? I've never been flagged before.
It's a beautiful subject, executed outstandingly well in snow and well photographed. What's not to like! And I think it's great as an icon for you!
Don't let the moronic flagger win. As soon as the flag is lifted (and it will be, I'm sure), put it right back as your icon!
It is also a sin to have sex....especially if you are married...and god forbid you should admit you either like having sex and/or being naked. Or thinking about being naked or having naked or semi dressed statues.

Layla, this is the email I sent to feedback@gather.com and support@gather.com. I would encourage everyone else here to do the same and let management know they've got a responsibility to their members.
When I was in high school, some insane librarian pasted fig leaves, made of paper, over all the naughty bits (her words) in the art books. She actually mutilated the artwork. At the same time, I had an enlightened art teacher who'd recommended I take part in a weekly art class where the models were nude. A combination of repression in one area, an open spirit in another. I don't think the two EVER talked to one another.

Personally, it's a great statue and to have made it out of snow...look at you, girl, with your crafty, artistic self! My snowpeople tend to resemble half-melted, white popscicles!
