A number of people, including myself, have written about or have emailed Gather about difficulties with comment posting and related publishing issues.
Most of the problems I have experienced either originated around the time of the Video upgrade last month or have become worse.
I have devised a few solutions that may help you during your times of stress, short of taking large quantities of Excedrin.

For comments that won't post, try this:
Ruby Shoes Method:
1. Click three times in the comment window.
2. If that doesn't work: click three times outside the comment window.
3. If it still does not work: copy, refresh and paste.
For problems with publishing, try this:
1. If you see that instead of PUBLISHING, you get returned to CREATE AN ARTICLE, simply click BACK to return to the page you were just editing. Check your edits to make sure they took.
2. If all is a go, then click PUBLISH again. You might have to do this a couple of times.
3. Or you can save as draft while in the EDIT stage. That will preserve your article as is. Come back after a while - 10 minutes, an hour, whatever.
For problems with image uploading, try this:
I had trouble with this while writing my recent Montreal photo essays.
1. Sometimes, the image would not upload. I discovered it helped if I left the room. Call it what you will (impatience on my part or bad vibes) but it helped. Thought not always. Just like all other aspects of life.
2. I did have to upload images a few times to get them to show.
3. Images did not always save. Often, I had to repeat this step a few times, which resulted in my saving the article as draft on several occasions.

Firefox might work better in this regard than IE. We use Firefox and most of the time, we have no problems in anything.
The past few weeks have been an exception.
Good luck in the Gathersphere!
Definitely try the Ruby Shoes Method of comment posting.

I especially love when I get kicked off the system and have to log back in.
Good night.
If it isn't working, maybe my comment wasn't that brilliant anyway! :-P
No matter what I try or do I can NOT view photos that dont have comments to them. It stinks.... As soon as my cotton picken cursor gets anywhere close to the picture boom its gone :(
or they will not upload!
If your photo is larger than 1200x1200 then use a photo program or paint program to re-size the photo..
You can also use that same program to convert a raw, png, bmp etc to a JPG

Sharon: The open source people ( not private software companies like Microsoft) do a GREAT JOB.
Fun, helpful hints, Kathryn.
Sue, most of the time it works fine. But if it does not, on the odd occasions that publshing a JPEG does not work as well as it should, try the suggestions or make some of your own.
