I was born in 1950 I was one of 7 children . We lived all over Virginia. Petersburg. Fridricksburg.
Seaford, You get the point. My dad was in construction. So we moved a lot. I completed only
One year of school at the same town. The rest of the time we moved around. Kind of hard to keep
friends. It was a different time . Milk at school was 4 cents. A popsicle was 7 cents. We took
our lunch most of the time. with so many kids it got costly to buy lunches. I remember taking
Potted meat sandwiches . wrapped in wax paper . By lunch time they were so dry they were
hard to eat. much less to trade.lol. Gas was 25 cents a gallon. Yea , and a soda was 15 cants.
candy bar for 10 cents. Milk was about 50 cants a gallon. We never thought milk would be almost
twice as much as gas today. Or that gas would be almost 3dollars a gallon. I loved the cars.
Never again will you see the chrome. the fins. Or the curves that were on the sixties cars.
and these cars are dissapearing. Sorry to say. You could rent a house for less that a weeks pay.
Times have changed so much. Never wll there be music like the sixties. Songs that will be
played for ever and ever. At least they will always be here to stay. There was Elvis, the big
bopper. brenda lee. just so many . You can find this kind of musie everywhere. Because so
many peopl still love it. You could play outside till dark. with out fear of Being harmed in any way.
Just be home in time for super. Our house seemed to attract all the neighborhood kids.
Everywhere we lived . We always had a house full or a yard full of friends. Just short time
friends. We played hide and seek till dark. Dodge ball. Roller bat. I don't know if anyone
would remember that game.lol. I only hooked school one day in my life. My older brother
Jand my twin brother Steve hooked with me. I was eleven at the time. We took a pack of
dads cigarettes. He smoked parliments, You could only buy these at a drug store at the time.
They were supposed to be healthier for you.lol. Well we roamed all over town that day.
Smoked so much. I never touched them again till I was 16. I remember going to a methodist
Church in the town of Emporia ,va. Me and steve sang in the choir at the church. We also went
to a baptist church too. There we were in a program to help the youth. You started out as a
page in this program and finished up as a knight. After each class we would play games .
Base ball . Dodge ball. And we would get a couple of cookies. and a soda. I really like that.
Our church choir was to sing on the local radio. I was really excited about that. We moved two
weeks before we were to sing. Well I've mouthed off enough. I hope you like my writting.
With seven kids .there are so many stories. I'll always love the sixties.
