I'm a cranky 40 something female who longs for the good old days. My longing to go back to the 60's/early 70's is so intense. I loved the music: Pictures of Matchstick Men, Wild Thing, Green Tambourine, Kozmik Blues, Be My Baby, Lucky Man, In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Sad Eyed Lady, You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, Great Gig in the Sky, and a thousand other pop-progressive numbers; including the soundtracks from Hair & Godspell. I went to hundreds of concerts, The two most memorable were The Summer Jam at Watkins Glenn in '73 (Grateful Dead, The Band, and The Allman Bros.). Larger than Woodstock, too. Second best was The Festival of Hope, Summer of '72, a 3 day wondrous benefit jam in Long Island, New York. James Brown, CS&N, the Shirelles, Jefferson Airplane, and two dozen other acts. entertained us at Roosevelt Raceway. I doubt I could even survive those type of conditions today. Tens of thousands of bodies together in the steaming heat. No water. There was a sense of optimism back then. though. We, the people, could make change. Today, the music pales to that of yesterdecade and hope died out long ago.
For decades, I looked for that door back to that timeframe. Never did find it. I finally realized that even if I did get the chance to go back, could it really be the same as i remembered? I have baggage now that wasn't there before. The aches & pains of age have come aboard at some point. I no longer believe in goodwill overpowering the bad. And, of course, could I do without the technology that we take for granted today?
Well, maybe for a day or two, I can try!

I've made this a Feature in The Sixties.
I have a series of articles on The Sixties that I'm going to resume, soon. I stopped for the summer because it seemed like a lot of younger people were on and some of the 60s people were busy elsewhere...But fall is back now and I see a LOT of 60s people !
I love San Francisco and went to visit hait-ashbury the first time I went to California. It was sometime in the early '80s and held no link to the glorious times of the past. I was so very disappointed.
But what would my life look like if I only kept the good memories. No one would understand how I came to be the person that I have become.
So, going through that door for just a wee bit of time would be nice, but for now, I'll close the door until the next time I need to feel grateful.
Namaste
1 year ago, we took a good long look at our lives, picked out the things that we really still love and really mattered to us....
Looked at all the things we were complaining about....ways we didnt fit into the molds we were being jammed into...
Realized our kids were grown, and we had shreded dept a long time ago....
took advantage of a tiny peice of property in the woods....
got rid of a ton of material baggage...
fired our jobs
and tripped the light....
we struggled for about 6 months..ridding ourselves of caring what others thought( and they thought we were crazy) and started doing things the way we wanted to try them....
and struggled again with learning how to live on minimal wages...
let me tell you I FEEL GOOD.....even when I feel bad....
its not for everyone...
but....
I figure I got 20years left to work....might as well enjoy some of my life while doing it.
I didnt need a big house in the city
fancy clothes or any of that...
I DO however need my stereo
my moody blues,CSNY, and a few others at full volume on a warm summer night dancing
around a campfire....
the rest...I'll take it as it comes..
freedom baby.....
