FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS
By
HUNTER S. THOMPSON
BOOK REVIEW: BY ROCHELLE MOORE - AUTHOR
Well, what in the world can I say about this book that has not already been said before? Hunter S. Thompson, you either love him or you hate him. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was first published in the November 1971 issue of Rolling Stone and with his very unique and forward "Gonzo" journalism, HST either turns you on or turns you off.
On release, the book was an immediate success and features Hunter S Thompson and his Attorney travelling to Las Vegas with enough drugs in the car to "kill a platoon of Marines". HST is sent to cover a story and ends up completely out of his mind at the District Attorney's conference.
This book will have you in fits of laughter and gives you great insight into the Author's mind. His reality of the sixties will have you crying tears of laughter and wanting more. The book has since been released as a movie which was released on 22nd May 1998, and was a tremendous success. Johnny Depp plays the part of the notorious HST and does so with accuracy that you know he has spent time with the infamous Gonzo journalist. The film was directed by Terry Gilliam, need I say more?
The official media quote on the release of the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" was "Las Vegas viewed at 100mph from a medicine cabinet". This sums up the entire book and the name Hunter S Thompson will continue to thrill readers even after his untimely death. This is an excellent book and a highly recommended read.

Read this recently, btw, after having read it when it first came out in the 1970s. Interesting how much influence Thompson had.
You captured the essence of the author as well as the book FLLV.

I am really glad that I have the opportunity to say WELL DONE. I am old enough to remember the famous HST and I absolutely love your review. You have him down in one.
Your review is very professional and for those who do not know the gonzo journalist HST well you have given them food for thought. I see that another reviewer is too young to remember however they are going to seek out the book and read it. That is what a really good reviewer is all about Rochelle.
Anyway, to sum up, I took my own time to log on to this site because of your work and I am really glad that I did. An excellent review which I thoroughly enjoyed. Why don't you go for a job as a professional reviewer? If this is anything to go by you have it.
excellent and very professional review 20 out of 10

This article is so unique just like you and it is fantastic that you made through to the last 10 with such an outlandish choice. Maybe there are people in gather who have a head on their shoulders.

so i decided to drop by and have a read. It is brilliant. Great review on
FLLV by HST. Very few reviews have done the great man justice but you

EXCELLENT

you seem to know this gonzo personality so well
or is it just that you are an excellent writer
either way well done
your review is perfect
a brilliant read
His was an eagle's eye view of the worm dirt levels of society socio-political duplicity and an oh-so-twisted form of common sense in a world [especially for the 'Toke Up-Drop Out" late 60s/early70s] gone mad with it's own self loathing while trying to represent 'free loving'.
Required reading if one is ever so inclined to "understand" the inner workings of a raving sain madman! He was one in a million and it wouldn't surprise me, if like Andy Kauffman, he didn't fake his own death!
Nice review!

great job on this review
Your article is excellent and could grace the pages of any magazine worth it's weight in salt.
And yet several brand-new Gatherers joined for the express purpose of commenting on your book review, many of them with full names lacking capitalization (just like… yours), and they posted comments in short sentences without punctuation (similar to your commenting style). More than one of them raved about how "professional" your four-paragraph article is, a descriptor that strains credibility when applied to a very brief and unremarkable "review" which is focused more on a film version than the book itself.
You have emailed me asking for an apology for my comments above. If this is really just a very, very strange coincidence, then certainly – I apologize for pointing it out.
Better?
Thanks for a great review!
[getting the sinking feeling that my communication skills are the reason why I have so little success with the ladies...]
You didn't become capital-A Auntie Smedley on my account, didja?
Got something in your eye? I'm pretty sure I have some Visine in my desk.
Frankly this book review was too short for my taste, but full marks to you because even this bikini-sized review has whetted my appetite to go and look for the book... it must be a helluva read, I am sure.
Thanks for posting the review, a good job!
Cheerz!
This is an excellent and highly informative review. I believe a new edition is being released next monday so your review is right on time. You have definitely enticed me to buy the new release as I had one many years back and it is time for a good chuckle. I loved the book and your review.
thanks for that. Actually the book is being re-released on monday next so it does fit into the category. Can i have a go of your stapler?
Rochelle
i agree with you this review is excellent and does generate interest to find out what this book is all about i am showing my own age now
I would like to offer some suggestions to make it better, such as it is. You call the author Hunter S. Thompson and Hunter S Thompson (no period after the S) interchangeably. Choose one or the other. Also, quotation marks belong outside the period in a sentence, not inside the period. The third paragraph, first sentence mentions "fits of laughter" and the second sentence mentions "crying tears of laughter." This is redundant and perhaps a different description in the follow-up sentence would allow for more description.
Just my two cents.
great piece of reviewing
what an excellent respose you have from this review and I would say that is what any good writer tries to achieve Best Of Luck
SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT IT

It is not a place for rudeness nor unruly answers nor is is a place for people to feel free to email the author of articles with outlandish ideas. This is a forum for writers and should be respected as such.
This is an excellent book review and you explain about HST and his antics so well. I really enjoyed reading your review.
your review really sums him up
his wiley ways and the time he lived in
the 60's
I saw this on metacrawler and as a HST fan popped by to have a look
What a man eh?

You have given great insight into his life and ways
His unfortunate death (which was untimely) was tragic
