You know, I never gave this much thought until today. I threw on a t-shirt, red, worn and comfortable. These days, I've become the Queen of Comfort. That's more important to me than anything. When I feel good, I look good! The husband looked at my red t-shirt and said, "Oh wow, that t-shirt is 19 years old!" Here's a picture of this t-shirt and it says:
Twenty Years
Isla Vista, California Feb. 25, 1970
and Still Burning 1970 - 1990

This isn't my oldest t-shirt - I have a few others from concerts but they are so small, I can't fit into them now! Wait, a thought just popped into my brain. On the seats of my 1970 VW Bug, I have some t-shirts I used as seat covers. I'll check them out soon and let you know what they are all about! Thanks and I do want to hear your t-shirt story. Salud

Love this picture and could you please get a picture of yourself sitting in that rock with a hat on. I think that would be fabulous.
My two very most favorite tee shirts are a Peter Pan tee shirt from a play my brother was in and the other one had a couple of angels on it. I can still wear the Peter Pan tee shirt. Don't even know where the angels went. Perhaps someone borrowed it.

You dont know how many times I had to rescue that thing from the garbage...everyone tries to throw it away.
I remember a T-shirt I had in 1974 that promoted Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill wine, popular and cheap back then ... I had another one with gigantic red smoochy puckered lips ... weren't those the days?! I think I still have those T-shits packed away in a box in the attic ... wish they still fit!!!! Hah!
Ellie - awww that's a sweet one - amazing how quickly time flies by huh!
Lori - oh dear, that's funny - more later. Salud
Screaming from the other room across the hall to be heard over the TV set,….. “Honey? What ever happened to……….” Ahhh, It’s not the destination one looks forward to on the journey, It’s the path taken that one decides to travel down that sprinkles ones memories with smiles. AMEN

On the front it says "I eat only the best"
On the back is the name of a German restaurant in Chicago.
Story #1:
One time we were in Chicago and we stopped there at an off hour. As we approached the entrance I saw a sign with their hours posted and we were late. I had slipped the T shirt on and we walked in. I asked if it was too late to be served and the hostess said, "I eat only the best. Come on in!" We had a wonderful meal. She could have said "No!"
Story #2:
I was walking into a stock car race. A young woman who looked nice in her T shirt and was one of the reasons people think that bluejeans look sexy was walking toward me with this big grin on her face. As she brushed past me she said, "Follow me!" It was then that I realized that I was wearing that T shirt!
I hope Story #2 doesn't get this thread flagged.
Gone With the Wind is my all-time favorite movie. I wore that tee-shirt with everything, for many years. It finally started looking a little threadbare, so it was relegated to being a sleep shirt. Like all good tee-shirts should, it's stretched along with my body. It's my favorite thing to sleep in, besides Kevin's arms.
I moved in September, and out went all the clothes that were either too big or too small...
So everything I have now was bought in the last couple of years or so...
You're looking great...Isla Vista rocks (or did)!
Cheers,
Colonel Possum

My favorite t was circa 1970. I was circa 12. It was a reconfigured stars and stripes. Blue chest and long blue sleeves with a star on the chest. The bottom of the shirt was red and white stripes. My love for it was a strange thing. I bought it in a head shop on the corner of Bronson and Sunset in LA. (We used to sneek into the back of theater a block or so away to see first runs of Harold and Maude, Clockwork Orange, and Brewster McCloud.) I thought the shirt made some sort of political statement, though at that age, I had no idea what a politic was. When I got rid of it, it was like shedding a revolting skin: 'I can't believe I ever wore that!'
Two other shirts that were amazing were shirts I silk-screened in art class, eighth grade. One was Leon Russell and Marc Benno from the cover of Asylum Choir II. It came out beautifully and I broke the press making many copies for people who had no idea who either of these men were. The other silk-screen I did that came out nicely if not as intricate and compelling as Russell/Benno was a head of Hendrix. This also created a brief flurry of demand.
I never bought concert shirts. If I had, I would have wanted the offbeat shows that were incredible, in part because the audiences were sparse... Tom Robinson Band, Graham Parker, John Lee Hooker. I don't recall there being shirts in the lobbies of those shows.
There was a long run of Sprinsteen shows to get me through my dating years but I never 'wore' Springsteen. (I designed but never printed a Springsteen shirt: It had a small image (think Izod alligator) of Bruce in full leap, one arm up ready to slam out a chord, and the quote in small print above it, "I ain't here on business baby, I'm only here for fun." Boy, that makes me want to hear Rosalita!)
Another t-shirt love were my Enterprise Fish Company t-shirts when I worked there as a cook, busboy, and kitchen manager ('77 - 82). It was my time to belong. I see people at work now wearing the company logos on their shirts. I do have a company baseball cap, but I'm not enough of a belonger to warrant the logo shirts.
Which is what it used to be about: belonging. Things have changed now. My kids wear mostly random stuff with no meaning, though Madi wears the Sex Pistols, Beatles, Blondie, The Clash, and many other classics. But the belonging, the making a statement, seems less now. I sift through the racks at Buffalo Exchange and see a hundred striking, meaningless images. (Not that Russell/Benno was _meaningful_.)
One shirt I would wear now: Flight of the Conchords. If you haven't see their HBO show... Maybe it's just taken me all these years to understand how to be a fan. And if I were to design a new shirt for any band ever on the planet, I think I'd like to try Miles Davis. You know the pose.
Sorry; I tried to make the above a clickable link, but it didn't work!

I'd say the oldest shirt I have is really a tank top like shirt (jersey?) from being on my High School Track Team. I swiped it as a souvenir when graduating. How I ever fit in that is a mystery, LOL. I guess that makes it about 38+ years old...
Take care.
PS- I still have a stuffed animal from the day I was born too... ;-)
Oh a high school track team jersey - wow - wish I would still have my p.e. uniforms - hey I graduated in 1967 - hahaha - we are about the same age huh???

I also still have the school tshirt from my senior year of high school and that was 84, yepz I am that darn old.
I hate dress clothes/shoes. The only pairs of shoes I own are crocs, slippers, tennis shoes and work boots.
My only pants apparel is sweats, pj pants, and jeans. I think you get the idea here.
MY comp check still isn't here and I have raised 7 different kinds of Billy heck from one end of this nation to the other with no avail. No mail tomorrow, so it won't be before tuesday at least. They are making me so upset and there's nothing that I can do about this. Thanks as always for being a friend and for leaving comments.
It is a over-sized tie-dyed shirt. It actually has a few pin holes in it, but I love it! I am not sure how old it is , but I have had it for over 10 years and it was pretty worn when she gave it to me.
i have plenty of old t-shirts that won't even fit over my head... hahaha...
Gisela - it's good to have you back and yes, everything counts if you tell us about it!
Nancy - back then a $12.00 was plenty of money - for us for sure! Thanks for a sweet story. Salud
