The One-Life Solution is a book written eloquently by Dr. Henry Cloud. Not to go too far off base, it is a business book, that revolves around boundaries, and how with the appropriate boundaries, you don't feel segmented and pulled in each direction between work & family, or perhaps your various family situations.
I decided to take a break from reading the Vampire Chronicles Series by Anne Rice to review this book, as it sounded good. Not to compare the two lightly, but reading this book ought to be compared to the little drink Lestat refers to so often, so as to not harm anyone. Instead of the little drink, I had the little read.
While the premise of the book; learning to keep work and personal life very seperate, yet experience togetherness in one's life, is a very good idea, I had to struggle to read this book. It was painful. While I could identify with what was being said, reading this was too much like work. I read other business toned books that were more engaging than this. I just could not get into it for more than one section at a time.
I found that this book referred to his other books pretty often. Before reading this book, I have never heard of the author, Dr. Henry Cloud, and chances are, I haven't read his other books. In fact, I haven't ever heard of his other books. Refering to information stated in other books does not help me, and actually turned me off. When I want to read about the one life solution, I want one book to do it in. I loathe referring to other books when I'm in the middle of one. If I need to understand what's said in Book 1, tell me at the beginning of Book 2, not half way through it. It's assuming that I am not the new reader of his works that I indeed am.
That aside, the content is believable, and doable with a little work, but then again, most things are doable. You just have to WANT to do them.
Good luck if you venture out to read this book. As I said the content is great, but it was the roughest read I've ever had.
