The safety of secrets is a novel that pulls the reader into the world of secrets from chapter one. It is a story of friends who trust each other to keep their secrets from childhood through adult life. It is about the struggles of normal life as the main character miscarriages a baby, becomes pregnant again is haunted by secrets from her past and forced to decide how to deal with them in the present. It is a hilarious look at Hollywood actors, actresses and their crazy world. It is a story of growing up in an uncertain world and most of all it is about the power of friendship, love and safety. the emotions of the characters are so easy to connect with as you read the novel. the author has a wonderful talent for bringing the reader into the world of the characters. I cried, laughed and truly enjoyed myself while reading this book.
The reader will feel the pain when secrets are broken, when abuse is occurring and the poor choices of some of the characters. You will feel the love and bond between friends as they share and keep the secrets of each others private life. You will feel the betrayal as they are hurt when one character chooses to not let her friend play a major part in her wedding. You will feel the love, bond and safety of a wife and her husband as he protects her from the world.
I never realized a person could have so many secrets until I entered the life of the main character, Fiona. Fiona is an actress, wife and pregnant. You are pulled into the story from page one. I could not put this book down. I read it in two settings only because I had work to do that prevented me from reading it all at once.
I loved the way the author wrote with such power that I felt a part of the story and the lives of the characters. I was cheering them on and scolding them when they made choices I would not have made. It brought back memories of my friends and my relationships growing up.
Author Delaune Michel has published articles that will help the reader get the feel of the book and the author. They are listed below:
Exactly What I Wasn't Going to Write About Here...
How Do You Choose? (Or Why I Wrote The Safety of Secrets)
The School of Life: or How Being An Actor Taught Me to Write
This is the first book by Delaune Michel that I have read but it will not be my last. The author has the ability to take you from the present back in time and then to the present again without any confusion. Delaune lives in Westchester County, New York with her husband and two sons. She is currently working on her third novel. I give this book a 4 1/2 star. The laungage can be strong at times or I would give it a 5 star.

October can't wait to share!
I just finished it last night and am letting it percolate before I write the review.
Thank you SO much for this beautiful piece. I feel so honored that you were writing about my book. You have given me such a gift - to know that you connected emotionally with the characters and felt like you were living in the book - that is everything to me. I hoped that when people read the book, that they feel the story is theirs, one they have created with the characters, and it seems to me that you had that with Patricia and Fiona. I am so honored by what you wrote. Thank you again. This means more to me that I can say.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
:)
